Wondering on Wednesday

Thank you for all your comments about Mom being a lonely walker - they made her smile lots!

Our Mom tends to be a reclusive old soul - most those artistic types like her are - and even though she enjoys her quiet time and being alone sometimes she gets a tad bit lonely too. She misses occasionally having someone to chat with or just having  a friend to go and have coffee (or tea) with.

Now even though I am one super intelligent dog and the Dweeb is well...the Dweeb..... we do tend to fall asleep when she starts talking about world events and such.

So in a world where everyone seems to be "connected" we ponder over just what that connection is and why the simple art of smiling and saying hello to a passerby seems to be so unconnected now. We also ponder on how it is we all seem to have a presence everywhere online - and yet we are becoming invisible in real life?  Okay  - enough philosophizing - lets hit the park Mom and see if can encourage someone to smile today - we are nothing if not persistent :)

  1. We think people are just too busy doing nothing important to stop and say hello and smile but we find that does not apply to dog people who always make time. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

  3. One time Mommy was working on embroidery of a pillow. So she sat on a bench in public before work and was embroidering. A handful of strangers came up to her and asked what project she was working on. It's funny, when you want people to leave you alone (like when she was working on embroidery), people kept coming to her. But if she sat there doing nothing -- nobody would come there.

Maybe if you start painting in the park -- people will want to come over and chat?

  4. We either do the early morning walk when there are lots of walkers, that we see every day and greet. Or we go to the river where there are other dogs with their humans. Our walks are usually social occasions. Luckily, we still have enough people around who will return or initiate a smile and a hello.

  5. Mom is feeling a bit disconnected from live contact with people and is trying to find some new ways to meet up with people that will be interesting. She left us this week to join a group at Church that knits and crochets and she had a wonderful time. She's hoping to connect with another group she found out about through that group. She likes her alone time, but is finding an occasional need for other humans.

  6. aaww - such very deep thoughts on this hump day of a Wednesday. My mom gets like that. She has a tendency to be by herself. Sometimes the world is not as cruel there :) Hogs and snout kisses to your mom. XOXO - Bacon

  7. that are some good questions, I wish I had an answer. my mom is a lonesome rider too, but she has me, all the fabulous blogvillers and my dad. so having no bff on her side, my dad has to play this part... that can be exhausting to watch 1765 bags or shoes without to fall asleep :o) Have great time in your park!

  8. We just went back and read your post from Monday. We would definitely say hello if we passed you on a walk so let's just pretend, ok? Next time you are out walking just imagine we are passing each other on the trails and we will do the same.

  10. Perhaps here on this blog, it is the common bond "For the love of our Shelties, that connects us. I know that if I lived near you, I would smile all the time. Reilly, I so love your philosophy on various subjects!! You have such a wonderful mom, who makes us smile everyday sharing her life with you and Denny.

  11. Maybe your mom could just meet-up with more dog people. They will at least smile and nod "hello".

  12. Sometimes it seems the internet has connected us technologically and disconnected us person-to-person.
You never know who is going to make you smile - and who you're going to make smile.

  14. I've made the conscious effort to spend less time online. I was starting to feel disconnected with life in general.

I still check facebook and my favorite blogs, but I try to only do it certain times of the day, rather than the constant checking....

Hope you catch some smiles today.

  15. Believe it or not, as ridiculously out-going as my Mom is, she is also quite introspective and LOVES her alone time, so she understands. My Mom said she wishes she lived by your mom, she would walk with her! (but she would probably talk her ear off!) Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  16. Reilly and Denny,
How can people not stop and smile when they see your Mom out with you guys? I just don't understand.

  17. If only we lived closer, we would love to walk with all of you - it would be so much fun.

Thanks for the tip about the product from Petco - Mom is going to look for it. She couldn't find any of that lemon balm you suggested, but she is going to another nursery next week and will check there too.

  18. Our mom wonders the same things. There is something missing in society today and mom says it started when designers got rid of front porches.

  20. Your mom is very insightful. Yes today we are becoming more disconnected because of social media, no one looks at each other in the face anymore because of smart phones. My mom became very lonely due to her long term unemployment but the blogging and social media solved that for her. Has she tried meetup.com to see if there are any dog groups in your area? 21. We think people have more to say behind a screen...we just don't get it! I have found usually people are the talkiest and happiest when we are at the beach.
