(Dont worry - Mom made sure we didn't eat them - just played with them) They are all crunchy and roll around when you pounce them. We was a bit disappointed that there were no other other doggies to say hello to but we had a great time running around. But guess what else we got to see - guess guess guess - they are small furry creatures that Mom called squirrels. I the Remi dog wasn't very interested in them but Kenzie went into 'pointer dog' mode when he saw one, he just stood absolutely still with one foot up in the air - he is such a dufuss.
There is there wonderful stuff called sand that is so much fun to roll in and there are things called shells that we try to eat....they are VERY hard salty biscuits. And there are funny bowls of water all over the beach (large cockles) and Mom is always telling us not to drink them from them - but they is bowls of water???? The best of all is "dead stuff" that Mom is always telling us to stay away from - but gosh - it smells so good. Remi managed to sneak in a good roll on a dead crab but that meant we both had to bath when we got home which is totally not fair !
Mom says we did very well...we sniffed and checked out all the pee mail and yes we even left a little of our own! We greeted all the people’s we met so happily and welcomed them to “our” park. We even greeted some doggies and said they were welcome too. Yes...I think we are well on our way to becoming bark rangers.

We are all sleepy now but Mom says we have another adventure this afternoon - we are going to puppy training class!
What we do know is that suddenly this humongous Dogosaurus Maximus appeared and we were sure it was going to eat us ! My dogness that thing is massive and has big teeth and drools on us - yuk! And can believe he asked our Mommy what "those annoying floof balls are!"

I just wanted you all to know that the Dweeb and I are doing just great. He was waiting right there at the end of the rainbow bridge when I arrived and then we went around and said hi to every doggie we knew from our blog who was already here......it took a long time as sadly there are quite a few.

You know this place is kind of odd.....even though we miss our mom and dad a lot....and are sad not to be there....the sadness doesn’t hurt. Nothing hurts here, my arthritis has gone and my feet are perfect, I can run and play and my bark is louder than ever. Oh and you know ...you only have to think about a treat and it just appears..right there before you ...and you can eat as many as you want and never put on weight! And I only have to think about a favorite beach or park and boom....I am there!

But I keep an eyes on my folks and we have been watching our mom and dad and we know that their sadness is really hurting ...especially our moms. We watch her every day when she’s alone and cries ...and we know her heart hurts so much......so we spoke to the BIG DOG and asked if we could do something to help our mom. That night I was there in her dreams ....it was only me cause Dweeb Denny said moms mind was to scary a place to visit.

Anyway...in the dream mom and I were walking along in the park and mom saw a tag on the ground and picked it up...it had the name “Kenzie” on it. There was nothing else on it .....and mom was confused...so I told her that is for your new puppy and you will need to put your phone number on it when you get him. The next day mom found the link to Kenzie and Remi. The dweeb was supposed to tell mom about Remi.....but he the dweeb after all so we know how that goes.

Mom kept saying she wasn’t ready and it was too soon but I told her it is never too soon to love and that these two little guys needed her as much as she needed them. Dad agreed ...so off they went to get them. We love watching mom smile and laugh again.....even though she still cries a little when she sees our pictures or remembers some special memory. We know those two are going to have the best lives possible ...just like Denny and I did .....and I know they will carry on our legacy of being excellent (but junior) bark rangers soon. We love you mom and dad!

I still miss them every single day.....but one thing dogs teach us is how to love and open our hearts. So I would like to introduce you to Kenzie and Remi ....they are 8 weeks old sable Shetland sheepdogs. We drove up to South Carolina over the weekend to get them. Yesterday was the first day I haven’t cried in weeks.....I know my boys are happy and I am pretty sure Reilly helped me find them...a story I will share soon.

They will not go quietly,
the pets who’ve shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still can make us think
we hear them at the door
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them… and always will.

For the past few days I have been trying to put a little tribute together for my sweet Denny - alas I have 8 years of amazing memories and photos and its hard to pick just some. I also find every time I try I end up crying my eyes out. I miss my little guy so much and at the same time am also having to deal with Reilly's liver cancer and the prospect of losing him any day now. Just know we have loved sharing our adventures over the years and loved all the comments and support. Our hearts have broken so many times through the years as we have lost blog buddies and I hope they are all romping, barking like crazy and having the best time over the rainbow bridge.

I haven’t been very well lately
and could use some power of
the paw to help me get better. Last year I
was diagnosed with kidney disease and I already had a bit of a thyroid
problem too. I have to eat special food and takes lots of pills but I
have been doing okay until the last 6 weeks. Mom noticed I was just
nibbling at my food and I have been whimpering a lot. So off we went to see
vet because mom though maybe I had a bad toofie. He couldn’t
find anything wrong with my toofies or jaw so he ordered some blood
tests and they showed my thyroid numbers, kidney function and liver
function were all skwiffy. On top of that ...even though I haven’t been
eating much I put on weight...but we won’t talk about that !!!!!!!

Anyway .....all those wacky numbers made my vet worry so he sent me off
to see an oncologist vet. Thankfully there are no signs of any cancer
or tumors but I do have an enlarged liver, my kidneys have a couple of
cysts in them (which is normal with my type of kidney Disease) and I
have very thick bile in my gall bladder. Now the problem I have is my
special food for my kidneys has a high fat content and low protein but
to control my gall bladder issue I need a low fat food with higher
protein. You can see the dilemma...how do we treat both when they
require the total opposite thing!

My new lady vet is going to consult
with a nutritionist vet to see if they can come up with a good diet for me.
In the mean time they have added more pills ...that means I now have to
take 11 a day. So some power of the paw prayers would be much appreciated
and hopefully the pills and diet work so I won’t have to take so many
of those yucky things mom tries to disguise as treats!

So they booked a little cottage in a place called Cedar Keys which is on the gulf side of Florida. Now unfortunately the cottage only allowed one pet.... which was fine by me - I was happy to leave the Dweeb Denny home but NOOOOO Mom said that wouldn't be right...bah humbug I said !

Now being that we are "senior citizen" pups these days (or so Mom says - personally I still think I am a young pup!) and have a strict medicine routine and yes - we tend to go boom and fall down a lot - we needed someone who we could really trust to look after us and pick us up occasionally. Mom could only think of one person she trusted enough and that was our second Momma - Miss Dawn (My fiancee Katies Mom).

So the Mom paid for a airplane ticket and in no time Momma Dawn was winging her way to sunny warm Florida :) Mom and Dad left for their long weekend and needless to say it stormed the first two days they were there which was good as it meant Dad got lots of resting done. Momma Dawn took perfect care of us and of the coarse the Dweeb loved all the extra cuddles and belly rubs she gave him - he's such a suck up! Needless to say - we were the perfect well behaved gentlemen too :)

PS - we think Momma Dawn should go into the house/dog sitting business - she could go visiting so many places and meet so many furbabies (although the Princess Katie might not to be happy about that:)
It doesn't have the greatest beach but we did get to see some pink spoonbills which was pretty neat and of coarse we got to read and leave lots of pee-mail.
We are still around - getting on in years and slowing down but we are still both super cute and very modest....... ga woof ga woof.

Both me and the Dweeb brother of mine have arthritis now in our hips and back legs so we don't get out and about much anymore and the old ancient Mom has back issues and can't lift us in and out of the car by herself - she can't even pick up the ramp she bought to help us get in the car - really - what use is the woman !

We spend our days snoozing, driving Mom crazy and patrolling the yard because Mom being the dumb dumb she is ...loves squirrels and raccoons and insists on feeding them - so it was no surprise that Mrs Racoon bought all 4 of her babies visiting recently. They are now ALL daily visitors and every morning Mom makes them a smorgasbord of fresh bananas, apples, oranges, strawberries, peanuts and sunflower seeds.

Mom has even given them all names. Of coarse there is Mrs Raccoon, Then there is Whiskers - she is always wiping her whiskers. Then there is Flopper - Mom called him this because as soon as he gets on the food table - he flops down and covers everything up - basically saying "its all mine". Then there is groundhog - for some reason he doesn't like to climb and stays on the ground (we didn't get a photo of him today as he's very shy) - Mom puts a plate of food out on the ground just for him. Lastly there is Pavarotti who always looks like he is singing- He cracks Mom up with his antics.
Pet Meds Can Cost Less - Super Sluethe Reilly - on the job!Okay - did you know that here in the USA - there is an RX card just for us furbabies? Mom has been grumbling a lot lately because all of our medications are costing nearly $350 a month when she buys them through our local pharmacy but the other day she was watching some info-mmercial that stated you can use all RX cards to buy pet medicines if they are also people medicines ....so of coarse Mom and I went researching and found out it is TRUE !!!!!

See.....The discount is given on the medicine - not on the person or furbaby taking it. Anyway to get to the point - my Gabapentin normal costs $86 for a months supply at out local publix pharmacy (they don't accept discount cards though) so mom took the cards and had our prescriptions transferred to Walgreens and Mom got such a shock - today when she picked up my prescription - it was only $32.95 - that is a HUGE savings. And Denny's kidney medication dropped from $68 down to $30.

The card we chose is called Pet Drug card and this is their web address https://petdrugcard.com
There is no cost to use it, no joining or giving email address, you just enter your pets names and print out the card. We had no trouble using it at Walgreens. They list all the pharmacies you can use it at and what medications they cover. If they don't have your pharmacy or medication then check out some of the many other free RX cards as different ones offer different things. Remember - you must have a proper prescription from your Vet for the medicine - they can either print one out for you at the vets office or ours just sends it directly to the pharmacy.
We were starting to worry when it took so long for the results of my biopsy to come back but it turns out I have a bacterial skin infection in one side of my nose and they had to do a culture on it to find out exactly what kind of bacteria it is so they could match me up with the right antibiotics. Needless to say we all gave a big sigh of relief as thoughts of me without a nose and not being able to read the pee mail was just awful. So for the next two weeks I have to have this yucky ointment in my nose twice a day and have to take tablets twice a day too. Power of the Paw worked again - thank you every doggie you are all awesome !
We are needing some power of the paw - Mr Reilly had a biopsy done on his nose yesterday. Over the last 6 months we have been keeping an eye on a pink patch that developed on the side of his nose - in the last week it seemed to get bigger so his vet decided it was time to do a biopsy on it and find out what it is. Here he was when he came home - all tired and woozy from the sedation. He had one stitch in his nose which he will have out in 10 days. We now just have to wait until we get the results of the biopsy back.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2309552729860702390.post-21793028043012530832018-04-23T11:15:00.000-04:002018-04-23T11:15:01.312-04:00Down the lazy riverWhen Aunty Dawn and Katie came to visits - she and Mom went out one day to do some exploring and Mom found a new park we hadn't been too - so yesterday she took me over to it so I could claim it and add it to bark ranger patrol. Now this is only a tiny park with mainly a picnic area, boat ramp and a small walking path - but what it does have is about a mile of river front that we can walk along. The river is actually the St Johns river and it where are all the big ships go through to reach the Port of Jacksonville. Across from the park there is also BAE Systems - this is a ship yard that does retro fitting for a lot of the military ships and also private ones too. Check out that Yacht behind us (actually there were two - one in the water and one behind it in dry dock) - Mom says either one would be perfect for us to cruise around the world on - dream on Mom - dream on !
Is that pawsome or what! Now sadly due to arthritis in my feet I can't really take her and show her many of the sights but yesterday was a good day so our moms decided to take us the Arboretum and Gardens. I was able to walk with her about half way and than the Mom picked me up and put in my walking wagon. We had such a wonderful time - although we REALLY didn't need that dweeb brother of mine being there as a chaperone.
Getting old is no fun at all. I the Reilly dog have jippy feet (and I can't even wear my boots anymore ) and I have bad arthritis in my spine and back hips. The last time Mom took me for a 'real' walk I only got about a 1/4 mile and flopped on the ground and couldn't move. Thankfully by big human sister was with us and was able to carry me back to the car. Then on the weekend Mom and Dad took us to the beach - and before Dad could pick me up to carry me down the steps I tried to go down them myself and my back legs gave way and I tumbled down 4 steps. Needless to say I scared the bejeebers out of the folks but I was actually okay - just my dignity was a little hurt. Mom will now only take me places with no steps and a flat surface so she can put me in my wheelie cart (which I HATE) but it is better than nothing. I do enjoy my bike cart though - it is fun watching Dad huff and puff and do all the hard work :)
Now we also have had some scary news about my Dweeb brother the Denny. At his last yearly physical a few weeks ago - his blood tests showed his kidneys were not working properly and his liver function was a little high. They decided to repeat the test one month later to make sure it wasn't just a faulty reading - and sadly the numbers came back slightly worse. So yesterday the Dweeb went off to the vets and had his belly shaved so they could do an ultra sound of his kidneys and sadly they showed he has "significant" kidney disease. He hasn't been showing any symptoms of anything being wrong. We are still waiting for some more tests to come back to see what kind of disease - and hopefully it can be treated with medications and a special diet - that will as the vet optimistically said - "keep him going a few more years"
We are also happy to report that after 8 months of living with us - cousin Max and his Moms are moving out tomorrow - they have an apartment about 7 minutes away but the big galoop will still be coming to doggie day care when his Moms are both working so we will still see him. We are certainly NOT going to miss his tail though - both Denny and I squint and put our heads down any time he walks near us because we are so use to getting wacked in the face with that tail And poor Mom has long whip like bruises on her legs from his tail....... she says can understand now why people dock boxers tail although she doesn't like the idea as there is nothing better then seeing a happy tail wag - unless it is knocking the coffee cup of the coffee table for like the 100th time :) :)
