Not much time left

Okay blog buddies, there is only two days left to get those photo's in to the Dog Blog Giveaway. Dawn and Katie wondered how I was going to pick the winners because all the photo's are so good. Well being a high-tech dog that I am, I found this neat on line radomizer program at random.org. You enter the amount of people participating and the program randomly picks the winners for you - pretty neat huh.

I didn't have a photo to share today as it is cold and raining here so I added one of mom's new pages about me. If you want to see some more of her work you can call on by her blog. There are examples of the cards, pages and other neat things she likes to make.

Dog Blog Giveaway

Okay buddies - it's time for a giveaway. As you know my Mom hasn't been very well but she is slowly getting better and part of that means doing things she loves, like crafts and making stuff. Mom and I got to thinking the other day and realized there was no cards specifically for dogs. When someone looses a pet it is just as devastating as loosing a child, and when a pet has a birthday - shouldn't they be able to get neat cards too. So Mom started creating and came up with a whole range of cards just for Dog Blog Buddies. She has Sympathy, Get Well, Birthday, Missing You, My Blog Buddy, Valentines, St Patrick's Day, Easter and basically all the major holidays. Here is a sample of the cards - remember to click on the photo to see them bigger. Oh, I forgot to mention there is plenty of room on the back of the cards to write a message.

We are going to give away 3 sets of 5 cards, plus Mom has made envelopes for each card too. So what is the challenge you ask - it is easy. Mom will give each contestant a number and in two weeks time I will pick the winners. Anyone is welcome to enter (even those not in the USA) - so tell your Blog Buddies to come on by. We know it's not always easy to sneak up on a snoozing doggie - so you have 2 weeks to take a photo or hunt through your old ones. Closing date is the 3rd of March 2011.

THE CHALLENGE
What we want to see is the funniest, cutest or most adorable pictures you have of yourself sleeping - all four feet in the air, laying in the sunshine, on the arm of the sofa, with your head on the pillow, curled up in a flower garden, snuggled in a blanket, in a box - what ever. I am sure some of you even have some pictures of you in your PJ's !!!

Post the pictures on your blog and then come back and leave me the URL and a little description about the picture. How easy is that ? Get those camera's out Mom's and Dad's and start snapping!

New Zealand Earthquake

Many of you may have heard about the Earthquake that hit New Zealand yesterday and the devastation it has caused. We have some buddies over there Josh and Jess and are very happy to hear that they are safe. Please say a prayer for those that lost their lives and for the doggies that may no longer have a Mom or Dad coming home to them. You can read about it here

Dog Beds and "IT"

Over the years Mom has bought me soooo many beds. Temper-pedic foam, water-filled cool bed, trampoline style, basket, snuggly and so on - and what do I do - IGNORE them all, preferring instead to sleep on the floor. So imagine Mom's surprise when she walked outside this morning to find me laying on the trampoline bed just enjoying the sunshine. She had put it outside thinking that "IT" might like resting on, but of coarse he has been ignoring it. You have probably been wondering why I haven't mentioned "IT" much of late, well it is MY blog after all and why should I share it with that little "THING". Actually, I have just been sitting back and enjoying "IT" getting in all sorts of trouble. "IT" likes to empty the laundry basket and spread the clothes all over the floor, "IT" chewed through the power charger cord for Dad's phone (he was NOT happy). "IT" likes to dig huge holes in the garden (Mom was not happy), "IT" empties the toy basket at least 6 times a day all over the floor and "IT" loves to tear up tissues. "IT" is the biggest ever WUZ too - he has more clothes then Paris Hilton's Dog!

I think you are getting the picture by now. Sure "IT" is occasionally fun to play tug with but that doesn't make up for all the tail grabbing and paw nipping "IT" does to me - or the fact "IT" is constantly trying to and does steal my treats! Being cute can only take you so far "IT" and that is all I have to say at the moment.

In other news - can you see the specks of green appearing in my lawn, I can hardly wait until it turns bright green again - this dormant dry brown phase during winter is so depressing. Don't forget about the Great Dog Blog Giveaway, I hope you are out with the cameras or looking through your old photo's.

Learning Sign Language

Mom and I were watching TV the other day and saw a dog that had learned some really basic sign language so we thought we would give it a try. Thanks also to Eva and her post about silent commands, it made Mom get to work with me :) When you think about it, farmers out on the land use hand signals and whistles to indicate what they want; especially to Shelties and Border collies - so it is is only a natural extension of that. Mom has always used a mixture of gestures and commands with me as she isn't fond of clicker training. So after about ten minutes of practice - here I am. Mom started with the words "lay down" but added the sign language for "lay down" too. She kept doing the hand signal but gradually stopped saying "lay down". At the same time she also used the sign for "sit up". At the end of 10 minutes I had it and Mom and I have been practicing all morning. Mom says this is certainly a very quiet way of training ! This is just a short video of the final result, we figured you didn't want to see all the practice bit.

As for Mom she is feeling better today. The doctor removed the drains and these things called "bolsters" which were either side of the wound. Having those released removed a lot of the tension and it isn't hurting so much now. She goes back in a weeks time to have all the stitches removed. The surgeon and my Dad were both REALLY happy with how it is looking.

A rough weekend for Mom

Mom didn't have a great weekend, she has been in a lot of pain and the surgery has really set her back again making her very tired and just generally not feeling well. I figured I had better do something so I got Dad to take me to Petco and I looked for a nice bone that Mom could chew on. Of coarse, that also meant that Dad and I had to have a BIG discussion on the merits of Mom having a bone, for some reason Dad seemed to think that Mom would not enjoy it. How could ANYONE not enjoy a big tasty marrow bone???? My dogness, I really began to worry about how sick Mom might be when Dad told me this; but he assured me that Mom was fine and that she just wasn't fond of bones - sure sounds like a sick person to me !!! Mom goes to see the surgeon today and she thinks everything is just fine, she said that she thought the stitches were very tight and that is what is probably causing the pain. I hope that is all it is as we have the most beautiful weather this week, it is going to be in the high 60's all week with no rain or snow in the forecast - this all means perfect walkies weather and in fact "She who is never seen" took me and "IT" for a walkies in the park yesterday.

Dogness - I nearly forgot !!! Happy Valentines Day every one and special Valentines message to my favorite girl - Miss Katie. Sigh, isn't she just the sweetest and prettiest little lassie you have ever seen. Dad and I got Mom lots of flowers and he found mom a really special card too which we gave her this morning. I also forgot to mention that while sitting with Mom yesterday we also came up with some great news - we are going to have one of our Great Dog Blog Giveaways again. So get those cameras ready (we promise no pee-mail photo's this time) because we have some wonderful prizes. Details coming soon.

Mom is doing okay

Mom's surgery went fine, she is resting a lot and although she won't admit she is rather sore. She has two drains in at the moment and these will be removed on Monday. The surgeon was very happy with the results so hopefully things will just continue to get better from here. Okay, I am off to make Mom a cup of tea and make sure she is comfortable - A doggies work is never done when he has a sick Mommy. I also made her a scrambled egg for breakfast and of coarse I had to taste it to make sure it was okay so Mom really only got half a scrambled egg - but that is okay because she wasn't very hungry anyway.

An Update

As some of you know my Mom was very sick last year and spent most of the year in the hospital. Tomorrow she is going to have some more surgery to repair some of the damage the previous surgeries caused. Of coarse this means I will be very busy looking after Mom for the next few days so I might not get the chance to blog much. Please send lots of good puppy vibes to my Mom. I will try and let you know how she is doing as soon as I can and in the meantime I will be sitting right here by the front door until she comes home again.

Snow Day!

We're having a snow day
A wonderful snow day
There's no use denying
And no use a cryin'
We're having a snow day

YES ! It is finally snowing here and we are expecting 1-3 inches. I am so happy that I am in a singing mood this morning (to the theme song "we're having a heatwave) and even Mom is happy because it is those big fluffy flakes of snow she loves to see. Of coarse it also means she has to stand by with a big towel every time I come - other wise I leave a trail of wet paws behind me - not that I mind in the least!

Mom's Present

This is what was in the big box that Dad and I got for Mom's birthday. It's a trickling water fountain. The large rock that the water flows over is a piece of slate and then it has river pebbles on the bottom. It holds five cups of water and Mom just loves it. Personally all that sound of trickling water just makes me want to pee!!! Mom loves these fountains, she finds them very relaxing and they add some moisture to the air as well. Dad had bought one for Mom a couple of Christmas's ago but it stopped working so Mom was very happy to get another one - mind you she gave Dad enough hints so he could hardly go wrong ! Mom and Dad also went out to dinner and Mom has a yummy bowl of Chicken and Gnocci soup (that is all Mom could eat) and Dad had Chianti Braised Short Ribs. I think they were very mean not to bring me back a doggie bag - Mom said I am too young to have alcohol so I couldn't have the ribs and I can't eat red meat anyway. I still would of tried it even if it did upset my tummy! Mom did give me two extra charcoal cookies, so I guess I can't really complain - OKAY, yes I can - they should of bought me home a doggie bag!!!

Happy Birthday Mom !

Today is my Mom's birthday - yeah Mom ! You sure are old!!!! I started the day off perfectly for her by waking her up at 4.00 am because I desperately needed to go out. I don't know why Mom grumbled so much about it - but she did. A boy has to do what a boy has to do! After breakfast Mom and I drove Dad to work with me dogervising the whole way - if I didn't do this Mom would surely get lost. As for a birthday present, well there is a big box sitting in the lounge room for Mom from Dad and me but we have to wait until this evening to open it as Dad has to "put it together" Doesn't that sound intriguing? I will post some photo's of it tomorrow so you can see what it is. Mom and Dad are going out for dinner tonight too - which I think is a bit inconsiderate as they know I can't go with them. What is up with that anyway - why can't doggies go to restaurants too? Hope everyone is keeping warm and safe with all the snow they have been having further north. It is cold here, but the sun is shining and over all we were very lucky to have missed the storm.
