What gives?

I am stepping on my soapbox once again.

Word verification sucks!!!  And the new word verification sucks even more! If you can read the numbers on the first one - good for you and your guess is as good as mine if that is a 'u' or a 'v' on the second one. For people with dyslexia this "prove you are not a robot" makes life annoying to say the least. On average I have to click though 4-5 different ones before I can find one I can read and even then I rarely get it right. As much as I hate to admit it - I don't visit peeps with word verification turned on as much - simply because it drives me crazy!

And really - there is no need for this word verification - you can just changes your settings to "comment moderation - ALWAYS".  That way you can see the posts BEFORE they are posted - delete the ones you don't like and post the ones you do. Blogger does an awesome job of filtering out spam automatically for you and I am lucky if I get 1 a week that slips through.

Here is what I have my setting done like......Okay stepping down off my soapbox now - but feel free to share this info with others :)

  2. Yeap, we just leave their blog, sometimes we try to leave a comment and tell them no one will come back because of the verification thingy, we got three new furiends that did that, and now they are getting more followers and comments. We leaned that from Jazzi before we even started blogging. Maybe this post should be copied and put out by everyone, if its ok we will do it, just let us know.

  5. Spot on, Cowspot Mom. And the sad part is that some of the bloggers don't even realize the verification is turned on. It is bad enough trying to read the letters but sometimes the box with the numbers is so dark that Mom thinks she must be going blind.

Hope Mom is doing better today.

  6. We are soooooooo with you. Sometimes we persist because we know that's new bloggers who have the @#@# thing turned on and we want them to get comments. BUT we HATE them. We are not ROBOTS, just beings who can't read the blurred characters!!!

  7. oh no, I use this but only because I was getting about 60 emails a day of comments that were spam, even if I have to approve first it was really annoying getting so many emails!

Maybe I will try the "registered" users only.

    Thanks for the tips!

  8. I don't have dyslexia, and I'm finding the new version very difficult to read. They smooosh the letters together too much.

  10. Does seem much more difficult lately. I will try up to 4 times, and then give up.

  11. I have to say thank you, again, for bringing this up. Unfortunately, I find myself not commenting on a lot of blogs because I can't get the word verification right- after about three tries, I tend to just give up.

For that matter, I have a really, really hard time reading blogs where the background is a super dark color with light/white text. For me, its like the entire computer screen is swimming around. I've had some very interesting blogs who I stop reading because they switch to doing this kind of color scheme.

  13. Thanks for that. Mom hates it too as she always has to squeeze her eyes to read those dumb letters and numbers.
By the way, your post also made her double check whether she has turned off this annoying stuff as well.

    Love,
    Eva

  15. I'm with you. I dread the word verification and sometimes just type WTF in the box because I can't even begin to read it and I require a second chance. Blogger does a great job with spam detection and, yes, there is always the moderation option.

  19. I have had a lot of trouble reading those numbers too! I have been getting a lot of spam lately so I may do the comment moderation. Thanks for posting the instructions! :)

  21. They are very hard to read. Sometimes I just guess and it accepts it. Weird. Sometimes I dont leave a comment because its just to hard.
