Maisy and The Helicopter

With all our excitement about helping to get the turtle rescued we didn't really get to tell you about Maisy. Maisy and her Mom came over and asked if it would okay to meet and of coarse we said yes. Maisy's Mom had a collie dog some years ago  - she thought we were small collies and we had to point out we are not collies at all but shelties. Maisy is 8 years old and was such a sweetie pie - we walked up and down the beach with her while the Mom's talked - (mom was so happy and hardly anyone ever stops to chat).

Maisy' Mom told our Mom what Jacksonville use to be like 20 years ago and how there use to be so many shells back then - she even remembers them building pyramids of conch shells on the beach at St Augustine and you could buy one for 50 cents!  To buy one if the store on Jacksonville beach - it will cost between $20-$30 now and they all come from the Bahamas !!! She says she doesn't know what happened to all the shells and no one has seen a conch on the beaches here for years now but she also mentioned that  there is hardly any other types of shells to be found anymore either.

While we were walking we also got the see the Navy Helicopter Pilots doing some practicing. They were dropping and picking up a guy out of the water and also on and off a boat too. Mom was amazed how they could hover the helicopter in place.

  1. Now don't be getting any ideas about Massey there Reilly. Katie says it's OK to have her as a friend but she reminds you that you already have a girlfriend. :)

  2. That is really exciting to watch the helicopters practice. Maisy looks very sweet too. That is very curious about the lack of shells. I'm sure it is something humans caused.

  3. That is sad about the conchies and other shell beings that live there no more. My kitty thinks that the hovering helicopter scared them away.

  4. I haven't been commenting since I can't seem to find a way to comment as anyone other than my precious Lexi, who of course crossed the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago. So please forgive and just know the comments are from her Mom. It is always nice to see another schnauzer out and about and Maisy sure does look like a sweetie pie. My first schnauzer was a salt and pepper, too.

Oh how lovely that you found new friends at the beach... and the shells, or lack thereof, tells a story deeper than the words. Fun to see the chopper at work too - what an eventful day you had!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-auntyxxx

  6. It's always fun to get the local history. Too bad about the shells getting more rare. Say hello to Maisy for me!

We have the National Guard stationed at our airport which is only about five miles west of our house. Sometimes they have their choppers flying around all day long, including the big old two prop Chinooks that look like flying boxcars! We never get to see them that close, though.

  12. Maisy looks like a great girl to befriend. Strange about the shells. Maybe they've been sucked into the Bermuda Triangle.
