What was hiding in the grass.....
This is what we saw hiding in the grass. Mom says it is a possum but that it doesn't look anything like the possums she knows from back in Australia which she says all tend to have big eyes and look very cute. Mom was a bit worried about this little guy though as he just sat there looking at us, it didn't hiss or growl or try to run away even when I got close. Mom wouldn't let me get really close though as she knows animals here in the USA can have Rabies and she was pretty sure this guy could probably give a pretty good bite if it wanted too. - I guess he was doing what they do best - playing possum!!!

What a weird little thing! Like a rabbit-dog with little ears kinda! We don't get them things over here.

What a sweet little creature! We wonder what it was... it sure doesn't look like any of the possums from Down Under.
ReplyDeleteLucky it wasn't a skunk!
ReplyDeleteSo that is what a possum looks like. We haven't seen any in Key West.
ReplyDeleteYour mom was smart not to let you get bit. That would have hurt.

Funny, possums don't usually go out during the day. They have really sharp teeth though, so it's a good thing your Mom didn't let you get too close. We have a big old fat one that comes to our feeder some nights. It smells terrible, Katie always wakes up and barks at it, but it doesn't run away until it's full of bird seed. Then it waddles.
ReplyDeleteHe does look... different BOL
ReplyDeleteCute though :)
Big licks to you

Possums are yucky, smelly and mean when they need to be. Great advice from mom to stay away.
