Please keep to furbabies inside when it is cold and make sure you keep them warm if they are outside even if it is only for a short time.
Also please remember that not all dogs have double coats. Certain breeds of dogs including wolves, collies, shelties, sheepdogs etc have double coats - the fluffy coat underneath traps the warm in and the outer coat keeps the snow etc from getting close to the skin. Short haired dogs DO NOT have this and can lose heat VERY quickly.
We are LUCKY to have double coats but even with that Mom will only let us out long enough to pee and poop when it is cold. Remember if you yourself are not willing to go outside in the cold without a coat then neither should your dog - especially if it has short hair!
And another story that just came on our local TV - seriously what is wrong with some people ! This little sheltie mix named Peanut who lives in Indiana was found FROZEN to the ground. He legs, tummy and tails were frozen and he couldn't move. They are trying to get the owners to surrender him to the humane society as he is also severely underweight. We hope they throw the book and the whole darn library at despicable people who 'owned' him! Mom wants him to come live with us but they already have a huge list of people wanting to adopt him :)

And lastly we have the most heartbreaking and heartwarming video we have ever seen. Please please watch it. Warning - Grab the tissues (mom blubbered like crazy over this one) but tears of joy and sadness seeing how much love this amazing dog has. We have decided to make this group "HOPE FOR PAWS" our "cause of the year" to help so a percentage of anything Mom makes and sells will be going to help them.
They just removed 70 dogs froma property near here. All of them were outside in this frigid weather, with nothing more than a plastic barrel for shelter. The police said they weren't breaking any laws, but the ASPCA went to a judge, who allowed all the dogs to be sezied. It only happened because numerous people called the news.
ReplyDeleteI hope Peanut finds a good, safe, warm home. Thats what all dogs deserve.
Wise words. Yes if it is too cold for us it is too cold for many of our furry friends. Hope the weather is easing up. Have a tremendous Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Even with our double coats we are finding this weather a bit cold.
ReplyDeleteWE of Blogville are SO LUCKY... we have good homes with all the thingys we need fur a happy life.
ReplyDeleteWe do NOT understand some Peeps who allow their trusting and loving animals to suffer in such horrid situations.
There will be a place in HELL for them... and a MUCH BETTER place across the Bridge to welcome those who suffered under their LACK of Care.
I read about that little Sheltie mix, and it's so sad. And that first dog, that makes me so angry, that he had to lose all his paws because of the inhumanity of some humans!
ReplyDeleteTears here. We can't even express our thoughts on cases like those. Or in our neck of the woods dogs left in the heat! Hopefully, there'll be a happy ending for those pups.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Thank you for posting the info about dogs being left outside during the horrid cold weather. Also the story of Riley was incredible and I pray will raise lots of money to help others. Love the bond between the two pups.

We all have those thick double coats and we love the cold and snow. But we have a very wise Mom who makes us come inside when it is really bitter. When she lived in massachusetts, she had a neighbor who left their dog out all night in subzero temps and the poor dog froze to death - just not right.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
Lady was a blubbering mess when she watched that video . . . she says she can't handle it! Thanks for the reminders. We stay outside as short as possible when it is too cold!

Sniff, sniff, sniff...It bothers me so much how horrid some people are to animals. Thank you for sharing these stories and getting the word out!
