Bacons Show and Tell

We are joining Bacon for Septembers show and tell and this month and this month he wanted us to highlight a special treat you got while growing up. Now one thing Mom always loved and looked forward to when she a wee lassie was the milk she got at school for recess.  It came in funny little triangle milk cartons. Back in Australia it was made by a dairy company called Golden North and they also made 1 pint triangle cartons too. They were a pain to try and store in the refrigerator and if you dropped one they would explode everywhere. We couldn't find any pictures of the Golden North cartons but we did find some that looked jut like them. The other thing Mom always loved when she was little was Samboy Chicken flavored chips. They had so much flavor back then they would turn your finger tip yellow. Mom often ponders how much better things tasted when we were younger and did you know there is a reason why - it is because we have around 10,000 taste buds when we are younger and over the years the amount decreases to around 3000.

  1. Funnily enough we saw a triangular milk cartoon in a movie last week and the memories came flooding back. Have a terrific Tuesday.

  3. OMD we had this milk cartons too.... and the best was to blow them up when they were empty and to give it a good whack with your paw! once my mom did that with a carton what wasn't empty, wow that was a mess! I agree with your mom some things had a special taste or a special smell many moons ago...

  6. Haven't seen Samboy for awhile. May have to go on a hunt. SHE's never liked milk, but back when SHE was in first grade (no kindergarten then) they got midmorning milk and it cost 3 cents a carton.

  7. Love the milk carton! It reminds me of something from our cafeterias at school...but I can't remember what came in them exactly, maybe some sort of italian ice?

  8. What a cool milk carton! Our mom remembers the little glass milk bottles and if you dropped one of those there was glass and milk everywhere!

  9. Howdy Mates. SNAP! Our mum too, remember the little triangle cartons of milk and how sometimes they were left sitting in the sun for a while (ewwwww). You bought back many memories of early school days (mum is from the olden days hehe). Mum still likes Samboy Chicken Chips. They are her favourite. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
P.S. Our mum grew up around Payneham (in Adelaide).

  12. We get little triangle milk cartons like that here too - hotels usually provide them in the room along with tea and coffee making facilities :) As for those chips...mom agrees, she also thinks everything tasted better when she was younger butt being the cynic that she is she thinks it may be because of all the MSG and tartrazine food had in it back then BOL!!

  13. In her travels around the world, my mom has seen these triangular cartons but with creamer in them, she can't remember where, though. Seems a bit cumbersome for milk and children, but it is all in what you are used to.

  15. Good grief! I guess if I still had ALL of my taste buds, I'd weigh like a gazillion pounds! Hahaha!
