Back to the beach

We headed off back to the beach this morning and got to watch a couple of ships come in. The first one was the Oversea Long Beach which is a chemical/oil products tanker currently sailing under the flag of USA and is 174m (570 feet) in length. The second one was actually a US Coast Guard Ship 562 and is named the  Maria Bray. It is a 175 foot Keeper Class Coastal Buoy Tender and if you biggify the picture you can actually see one of the buoys on the deck that had just been replaced. We often see the bigger  White Coast Guard boats as their Station is just around the corner from the Mayport Navy Base but this is the first time we have seen this type of tender. While Mom was taking some photos of the Overseas Long Beach she also noticed these pelican that were riding the thermals a few feet above the breakwater rocks. Just at the last moment they turned slightly (thanks to my barking at them) otherwise they would of flown straight into her!

  2. maybe the Maria Bray lost the buoy you found on the beach? Or maybe the men on board throw it like a ball to the cute sheltie beach boys?
