A serious moment

As many of you know my Mom spent most of last year in hospital and she was very very sick. She couldn't eat for over 11 months and basically was bed ridden. Well things have been slowly improving over the last few months and I have my "old Mom" back again. The one that is home with me all the time, takes me to the park, plays games with me, brushes me and puts me through my tricks.

Anyway - today she was at the doctors to get the results of a bone density test that she had done last week and the results are not at all good. Not only does she have severe Osteoporosis she also has multiple compression fractures in her spine and they say it is due to what she went through last year. The Mom is a bit sad today but I am here with my soft eyes and warm fur to make her feel better. The doctor did say one good thing though - that lots of gentle exercise like walking is good for her and it's good for me too - so off to the park we go for a nice walk.

  1. Oh Reilly, we are sorry to hear about your mom and understand what a set back it must feel.
The important part of your post is where you describe having your 'old' mom back doing all the things you used to do together.
So things are much improved from last year!
The gentle walking will help with the osteoporosis and we are sure the doctor will also prescribe some medication to help.
Please give your mom extra licks with lots of drool from us bassets.
It is hard to get this news right now.
    Take care xxx

  3. Hugs to you and your Mom! We so get how worrying it must be, but we agree with Martha and Bailey too. Important to remember how much better your Mom be and you need to keep her spirits up, which I know you will.

  4. We didn't know you a year ago so we don't know what happened to your Mom, but we are very happy she is there with you now. Our Mom has very bad osteoporosis too and takes medicine every week. For a few years she was just stable but now her bone density tests actually show some improvement. So tell Mom to hang in there and she can get better. No running, no twisting exercises, lots of weight bearing exercises and walking is very good. We know you will do a good job of walking her:)

  16. Hello Reilly,
First of all, I did vote for a changed blog title but I have to say that your blog title is what caught my attention because a cow spot dog is very intriguing. I am your 75th follower now and I hope you will visit mine at http://theteacherspets.blogspot.com sometime.
I am so sorry to learn that your mom has been in the hospital for so long and that she couldn't eat for 11 months! What a strong lady she must be to recuperate and be back home with you now. Good thing walks are going to therapeutic for the both of you!
