For some reason Mom loves the duck and geese at MY park. She is always taking them all our left over bread and loves when new ones arrive. She has her favorites of coarse Mr Tuffy is number 1. He is an adorable black duck with a tuff on his head. Mom looked him up online and found he is called "a domestic crested duck" Mr Tuffy has a little white duck as his partner and they swim everywhere together. We also see them sitting side by side on the grass all the time and they look so cute. Wouldn't it be fun if they had a little white baby with a black tuff on its head!
Next there is Mr Tuxs - Mom says he looks like a penguin in his black and white colors and that he looks like he is wearing a tuxedo. The duck on the end is his partner and that one in the middle is a little male - their baby that they had last year - he just never wanted to leave and stayed with them all winter. Then there is Mr Speckles and his partner. He is a kind if pied Mallard - he has the mallards coloring on the head but brown speckles on the front and his back half is white - except for his tail.
Lastly we have a greylag goose - this one is actually a young one from last year. Sadly the father goose got hit by a car over winter and had a broken wing that got infected and he died and we haven't seen the mother bird since then. The other babies (she had 3) left but this one stayed. Then the ones most peeps in the USA dislike the most (because they poop in abundance everywhere) - the Canada Geese.
Now you are probably wondering where we were the whole time - can you believe Mom made ME sit there watching - how cruel is that - she KNOWS I am the goose chaser extraordinaire ! The Dweeb of coarse was browsing on some grass - hey maybe he is silly goose - they like to eat grass too!
Is the black one a "poodle-duck"? I wonder that you were so cool with all the fabulous feathered treats around you, you must be really good guys!
ReplyDeleteThey are all beautiful, and you do have some unusual ones there!
ReplyDeleteMy first grade teacher put duck eggs in an incubator in our classroom and we got to watch them hatch. For spring break, I got to bring them home and ducksit! We kept them in our bathtub at night. I've been a big fan of ducks ever since.
Lovely to see them but yes Reilly we figure it is torture to have to stand there on the side lines when one wants a good chase. My fav is chasing the coots. Have a tremendous Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Canadian Geese are getting to be a bit of a problem around here, but Mom LOVES ducks. She had a swampy stream near her house growing up and a pair of ducks returned every summer to have their family and she loved watching them on the brook. They were totally not intimidated by the schnauzer that patrolled the grounds. In fact I think they were glad he kept the rodents at bay that threatened their little ones.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Though we don't have any resident water fowl, many come in to our ponds. No chasing allowed because we all love to watch them :-)
ReplyDeleteWow those ducks and geese are just beautiful...we cannot believe you sit all that time, we are ashamed to say we nevers could have done that.

OMD OMD we LOVE Mr. Tuff and his wife. They would make fabulous parents... Your mom did an excellent job of catching so many super pictures of ALL the ducks and geese...
ReplyDeleteWE KNOW... it would be FUN to chase them... butt THIS time (ONLY) your mum was right to not allow it... they might drop and egg and that would be sad...
Wait until the babies are big and THEN you will have even MORE to chase. Like 87 of them even. You know what THEY say... all good thingys are WORTH waiting fur. Just sayin.
Are you sure the Dweeb is not eating that duck poop? My brother and I love rabbit poop so I was thinking that that duck poop just might be good also.

The Duck with it's hair in a bun has a pawsome hairstyle.
ReplyDeleteWe just have plain old ducks and a couple of black swans at our duck pond. We'd love to chase some ducks, but SHE won't let us.
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Bella & Roxy
You sure got a wide variety there, all we got is them Canadian Geese everywhere, Dad once counted over a hundred near the area pond! Humm, maybe the Dweeb has a good idea, might as well eat, if you can chase something!

Crikey .... how good are you blokes? You just sit there? You gotta learn how to chew through those leads .... leave me tied up and I just chew straight through in five seconds flat and then ..... goodbye ducks!!
ReplyDeleteMy folks had an assortment of ducks that would visit their dock pretty much every day too. Just like your Mom, my Mom had her favorites. I'm glad some of her favorites are still around this spring.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite the handsome assortment of ducks - that black and white couple would make a great B & W Sunday shot:)

We have a Canada goose that visits us everyday and when he flies in for a landing, he divebombs Huey because Huey is trying to steal his girlfriend! It's a riot to see!
ReplyDeleteWe love Mr Tuffy's hat!
Love ya lots♥
Mitch and Molly
Mr Tuffy is definitely my favourite too! You definitely have much more interesting birds than we do over here - we get pigeons and seagulls mostly. Heehee, I would probably be like Denny, sampling the grass there! Why couldn't you just chase those geese, so unfair!
ReplyDeletePippa :)
That's some serious discipline not chasing those birds! Not for me I would have to get wet but glad you enjoyed yourself! Love Dolly
