It was really tough going on vacation knowing the problems we were having with Reilly's foot but we talked with our vets and arranged for a vet on the Island to do daily bandage changes and hoped and prayed everything would be okay. Everything looked good until Thursday last week when we took him in and found out that once again the stitches had given way. We actually cut our vacation short so we could come back to our surgeons and get it seen too straight away.
Yet again (the third time now) there seems to be an infection in his foot so another round of antibiotics. Each time this happens the skin around the wound dies and looses the ability to hold the stitches in places. They took more swabs to send away so we can be sure exactly what infection we are dealing with and hopefully by the end of this week he will have it sutured again.
He now has to have his foot splintered rather than just bandaged - they are hoping the splint will help take the pressure off his paw and let it heal better. As you can see though - it is also taking a toll on my precious boy - I have never seen him so sad and despondent. Multiple times a day he goes and nudges his lead and looks at me with those big brown eyes and doesn't understand why we can't go for a walk - it breaks my heart every time I have to say 'no baby - not today'.
We knew going into this that having surgery on his pad was not going to be easy but we also knew the constant foot infections he was getting from the tumor could lead to something far worse too - so we just keep taking a day at time and hoping and praying - we are off to the vets again today and hopefully it will be looking a little better. Any power of the paw you can spare will be most appreciated.
oh man....poor Mr. Reilly. We continue to send you power of the paw.

ReplyDeleteOh Reilly. Please baby. Be patient just a few more weeks. We all love you and know this is hard. Hugs sweetie, to you and your mom too.
ReplyDeleteSending lots of love to Mr. Reilly!
ReplyDeleteWe hope things start getting better soon. Maybe this wound needs to be left un-stitched. If this was one of my patients I would use something called Aquacel AG. I imagine there might be a similar veterinarian product.
ReplyDeleteOh no - poor Reilly. We are so praying for him and you my friends. We need all of us in blogville feeling so much better. HUGS to you!! XOXO - Bacon
ReplyDeleteMy heart is breaking for you and your Mom. I am so very sorry that your foot is not healing. I am praying for you all that Reilly heals and is better soon.

Wow wee Reilly, that's some fancy splint. So sorry you can't go on walks like you want but hang in there dude. It's all for a cause. We're praying for you!
ReplyDeleteOh NOSE! You look so sad... :( I'm so sorry you're going through all of this. But soon you'll be on the right road to a full recovery so you can run and play again. Sending lots and lots of POTP and some extra prayers.
ReplyDeleteI sure your little paw heals quickly! Our Holly had to spend an entire summer wearing a cone and having her paw bandaged. The antibiotics did not work in her case, and she had to have one of her toes amputated. So she knows just what you are going through, and us sending you sympathetic, healing thoughts!
ReplyDeleteOMD OMD REILLY BUDDY... we are sending you a DOUBLE DOSE of POTP and CROSSED PAWS fur your paw. DARN IT... we are sooo very sorry that this isn't going fast and easy as we had hoped and prayed it would...
ReplyDeleteTHAT is a Flashy Splint cover there... at least you can say you are a Fashion Statement. THAT is good.
We are so sorry to read that Mr. Reilly is still having problems with his paw. We are crossing our paws tight that this time it will heal fully.

Oh my - that is so sad! I love the minion bandage though. Praying he heals quickly. Is there a plan B if the bandage/splint doesn't work?
ReplyDeleteI'm send you a double dose of POTP so you will heal quickly.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
continuing to send Golden Healing Thoughts. LOVE the bandage :-) Golden Woofs
ReplyDeleteSo sorry Mr Reilly, but you take it easy you hear! The splint might seem terrible now but if it gets your paw all healed up it will be well worth it. Beckett wore splint for over 8 weeks when he broke his leg as a pup; he survived.
ReplyDeleteThat poor baby has been through so much. Hope it heals once and for all!! DakotasDen
ReplyDeletePoor boy and then he gets a pink girly bandage wrap! Too bad he can't use crutches. What about a lift like we have for Katie, but for the front end so you could carry some of his weight? It truly is a tough injury spot. We pray he gets it fixed this time around.
ReplyDeleteGoodness Reilly, we sure hope the splint will help - sending POTP as we bark

Mr Bailey, Hazel & Mabel
We certainly this does the trick. So hard to not be able to have walks....for peeps and pups. At least you got a holiday in, it could have happened at home, too. Keep getting better, Reilly.

ReplyDeleteAw Reilly - that's not good matey-dog! POTP by 87gazillion with hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
We are sending POTP times 4 in hopes that Reilly's paw will be better soon!!
ReplyDeleteOh Reilly and Mom, we are so sorry for this news. It is so hard to get some infections to go away and areas to heal properly. We hope the splint will do the trick and that the vet can identify the infection. We know this is not easy on him, but you are doing the very best for him. He still looks so handsome.

ReplyDeleteOur hearts are breaking for you and dear sweet Reilly. I couldn't imagine having to tell Dolly no walk today. Does the wagon help at all with his depression? Daying tons of pay prayers for you and Reilly and if there is anything I can do, even just a shoulder to cry on, let me know. Sandra & Dolly
ReplyDeleteAw, Reilly! That really stinks! Maybe your mom can find some cool chew toys to help bide your time until your foot heals?
ReplyDeletePraying for you!
Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
Aw sending you some prayers and pug hugs!!
ReplyDeleteReilly you are a brave dog just like me. It is very sad, but you must do what's best to get your paw pad to heal so you can run, run, run on the beach. Big POTP and prayers for you, friend.

ReplyDeleteoh reilly, we are so sorry things aren't going as planned. we are sending you truckloads of POTP and we are asking st francis for a little help too.
ReplyDeleteblessings, bailey unleashed
Its to bad you cant take the bandage off , so it can get air. And only put it back on if he needs to go out or to bed (when you cant watch him). Its seem, keeping it closed up like that , wouldnt be good for healing.
ReplyDeleteSending POTP to Reilly. We do hope your paw heals soon.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for Mr. Reilly. I know that it is breaking your heart but you are doing what has to be done . He will forget about it when his foot is well. ♥ We are sending our most powerful POTP.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear this. POTP!
