We thought we would share some more pics of MY GIANT coleus plant. Mom loves how velvety these look and they have always been one her favorite plants.
Now Mom actually grew these from seed and they were just those seeds you can pick up in the dollar store for 5 packets for a dollar and she was kind of surprised they actually even grew :).
She just put a whole packet in a pot and apart from water she hasn't done anything else to them - no fancy potting soil or fertilizer, just water and sunshine.
You can see how big the leaves are against Mom hand. The deep red one is by far the biggest but even the other colors are still a good size. Mom is going to let them 'run to seed' to see if she can grow some more next year and will be happy to share them if anyone wants to try growing them.
We think your mum is very clever growing those beautifuls leaves/plants from seed. We agree - the plant is awesome!

Crikey Reilly .... that sounds like a disease, mate!! Wanna look at my giant coleus?????
ReplyDeleteMum reckons they grow like weeds here. Very pretty weeds, I might add. She's never grown them from seed. She just takes a bit of a cutting and sticks it in the ground and it grows. Like a weed.
They are gorgeous! I had no idea they could get so big.
ReplyDeleteI've never had much luck growing anything from seed. Maybe next summer, I'll give it a shot.
Wow guys they look like great big velvety soft puppy ears :) and so healthy...funny the dearest things I have planted and carefully tended have turned their toes up (including a lemon tree!!! what's with that) yet the 2 dollar wattles have gone berserk...the goldmines really ruined or land...so I have coleus envy! hugs Fozziemum xx

ReplyDeleteI'm always on the lookout for plants that don't flower. I don't like to give the bees a reason to hang out in my yard. And these are pet-safe?
