Ho hum - BORING !!!!! The weather man is forecasting rain EVERY day this week but we are still managing to sneak out between showers for little walks. The only ones who seem to be enjoying all this wet are the tree frogs who have been "quacking" up a storm. This is the first time we have seen them all summer and we thought maybe the crazy weather had upset them. Now even though the days have been warm and humid the nights have been getting quite chilly and this morning as Mom was doing some weeding she heard that familiar quacking (did you know tree frogs quack?) and went looking and there they were - two little tree frogs hugging the light to keep warm. How they managed to get up to the light is anyone's guess - it helps to have sticky little feet though.

Green and Yellow Froggies |
And guess what - now you can hear them. Did you know tree frogs are called "herps"
here is a page that has their strange sound on it - look for the word "description" and just under it you will see a little speaker symbol - just double click on it and you can hear them quacking!
The bigger of the two frogs is actually a yellowish color with a white stripe and the smaller one is a darker green with a white stripe. We couldn't get really good photos of them as it was hard to get the camera in behind the lamp where they were hiding. They both have the white strips so we are thinking they are same species just different color variations. Mom has been happy all day knowing they are around - she LOVES tree frogs - weird huh!

You can just see the yellow froggie on the back glass |

ReplyDeleteWe had a lot of rain last week and more coming tomorrow. Last week Mom had to go out in the dark to see what Lightning was stalking. It was a GIGANTIC tree frog, but it was too dark for the flashy beast to get a shot of it. Mom is hoping Lightning didn't lick it - he was just standing there and barking and barking at it. Mom had to get a plastic bag and pick it up - ewwwww - and move it outside the fence. He was really ugly.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
OMP - how awesome my friend. I love these frogs. We have some down below our backyard in the 'swamp'. You can hear them really loud at night. And sometimes, we get them on our storm door. We haven't seen any yet this year. Why do you ask I know this? Because I haven't heard mommy screaming from them jumping out of nowhere at her - snorts. XOXO - Bacon
ReplyDeleteToad-ly (totally) Pawsome post.
ReplyDeleteScientists say if there are frogs then the earth is healthy. Guess that goes for cold frogs....

Oh, what could we do if we had sticky feets?!?! The possibilities are endless!!! The tree rats would be defeated!
ReplyDeleteIs it not amazing that they could tell that they could get heat from your outside light. They are smart little guys.
ReplyDeleteBentley
Yikes! Mom doesn't like frogs at all! She would be very unhappy if we had lots of frogs here!
