We are still alive!

We are all still here - busy looking after Mom. She is doing much better but her ribs are still very sore (they had to attach mesh to them so they are bruised and hurt quite a bit)  You are probably wondering what surgery she had - well when Mom was very sick two years ago she had LOTS of surgery on her abdomen and it left nothing but skin covering all her intestines. Some of you may remember that at one point they actually burst through the skin and it was a very scary time. Last year they managed to repair the bottom half  by pulling the muscles back together and reinforcing if with a special mesh  but she still had 8" of the top half of her abdomen that needed fixing.  This is what they did a couple of weeks ago, they used two layers of mesh and pulled the muscles from her ribs around to cover her abdomen. This was something they had to do as we didn't want Mom's intestines popping out all over the place again. Anyway, it all worked very well and Mom finally has a new abdomen and paws crossed it is the LAST surgery she will need. They say it will take about six weeks for her ribs to stop hurting but all the stitches and staples are out now.

Mom says it is funny how protective we have all been of her, we ALL snuggle around her feet when she is sitting or ALL lay her side of the bed if she is laying down. I am keeping an especially good eye on Mom and it doesn't matter where she goes, I am right there at her feet. I want to make sure my Mom doesn't ever leave me again.

  3. Keep up the good work of taking care of Mom. She's been through so much, but there is nothing like doggy nursing to help her heal.

  8. Oh, we are so happy to hear from you. We are glad things are going well for Mom - that sounds like quite the major surgery. Six weeks is a long time, but it will be worth it in the end when Mom is all better.

Mom says she thinks we have a way of knowing when our humans need our tender loving care:)

  11. Yikes, that sounds like it'll sting awhile. I think that your mom should take it really easy. Things popping out does not sound good.
