We had a strange ride to the park this morning - the Mom was swerving and weaving all over the road - WTD we were thinking........did she have to much rum and raisin ice-cream last night! Thankfully there wasn't any other traffic at the time and twice she even stopped, jumped out of the car - picked up rocks off the road and gently laid them in the grass on the side. SERIOUSLY - we were beginning to think she had gone bonkers!
When we finally got to MY park and started our walk - we found more strange things - walking rocks YES walking rocks on the path 'what the dog!!!!!' We sniffed at them but didn't find them very interesting and then Mom explained it it 'tortoise time' when all the tortoises that live in our area start marching around looking for a mate. The last couple of years we have even found them in MY back yard. This guy had a really pale colored shell - most of the time they are much darker. Hey Easy - we wonder if this guy is a cousin of Hel-Mut?
OMD Hel-mut sent his mates over your way. We never seen a walking rock before. Have a terrific Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
That's the prettiest rock I've EVER seen ... AND ..... they walk???????
ReplyDeleteCrikey!!
Mommy loves turtles. Butt she loves Shelties even more!
ReplyDeleteWhat a caring Mama. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteNow I am wondering what it is that a tortoise looks for in a mate. A nicely shaped shell, or soulful eyes,or maybe a good line in stories about hares...?
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.

Oh, we sometimes have walking rocks here too! They come out of the little lake by my house and strut across the street. I give them a sniff but they don't do anything. Those are two great photos of the walking rocks though...it looks like your mom got right up next to them!

Walking rocks?!!? Oh, my! I haven't seen any of these! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled!
ReplyDeleteYours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
Walking rocks is right! Turtles really should not be crossing the street, but I guess no one has told them what to do except for Mother Nature! Our vet says a lot of dogs think the moving rocks are toys. Thank you for taking care of them!!

So good of your mum to avoid the tortoises. They look different to the ones in Virginia that she used to capture every year (and release).
ReplyDeleteXXXOOO Bella &Roxy
Those are beautiful walking rocks! They're so tall. How sweet of your mom to help them cross the road.
ReplyDeleteWhoah...walking rocks?? Are you sure they aren't aliens from another planet?!! How very pawesome!

OMG that is just too funny!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, mommy got an idea for a project for work from this post about stones that are alive. Who knew reading a blog post would inspire an idea for work. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYour mom is so kind & such a nature lover. Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteWow what a neat find! Must be a relative of Hel-mut for sure :-)
ReplyDeleteHow cool! Momma's sister luvs da turtles.
ReplyDeletehow very cool, I would like to run into some of those. The biggest turtle we have here are snapping turtles but not nearly as pretty as those are.
ReplyDeleteHow nice of your Mum to watch out for the turtles. I've see turtle crossing signs but have never seen turtles crossing the roads. Maybe they don't know about the signs.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Mr. Turtle is so handsome!
ReplyDeleteCool!! Mom had a tortoise growing up, his name was...wait for it...Sam!! She clearly likes the name. We hope the tortoises find their soul mates and survive crossing the road - that is dangerous!
