Yesterday I went to MY favorite Dogtor for my annual checkup and shots. They stole my blood, pocked me with needles and put drops in my nose and zapped me with an x-ray machine. Mom says they will help keep me safe for the next year so I guess it is worth it. My thyroid levels are holding steady with thanks to my medication but we did get some not so good news.
Dogtor W says I have the doggie equivalent of rheumatoid arthritis and it is now affecting all my joints and even my spine. Mom had noticed me getting stiffer and she was very worried about me slipping on the wood floors which I seem to be doing more and more. I have some new medication to try for the arthritis and will be getting a shot every 3 months that will also help. After the dogtors visit Mom said we needed to go to Petco to get some PAWS boots for me. Needless to say I wasn't at all interested in those - not when there was so many yummies to sniff and YES - we got plenty of those too :) :) Dogtor W said it was still okay for me to go adventuring but no really long ones anymore.
Oh dear we hope it helps. Peeps says now I am a senior I am not allowed to run around like a lunatic for hours on end. I have to pace myself. Drats what does she know? Glad all was well with everything else. Have a tremendous Thursday.

Ah Reilly - that sucks. Me and Ruby both have arthritis, and we don't go on long walkies anymore either. Dad has put runners on our tile and wood floors just for me, cuz I was slippin' a lot. It really helped!

ReplyDeleteLove those booties - I would never try those with Blueberry though. She'd revolt!
OH man Reilly, I'm so sorry to hear that. My husband has RA, so I know it can be really painful. I hope the new meds help you out and give you some relief.

Paws were the only thing that stopped Bailey from going after his paw. He wore them once and just the threat of having them put back on has kept him from going after it again. I've been thinking about trying to find socks as I was concerned at how awkward he was with them on.
ReplyDeleteWe've been skirting around related issues with Bailey for a few years now. So far we've been able to deal with flare ups with meds and monthly chiro visits. I hope he adjusts to his new restrictions.
Oh dear. I guess you can work around that as long as the meds work well for you. Mom used to have a pup that needed meds for arthritis and it worked VERY well for him. BTW, did you know many doggie meds can be filled cheaper at Costco?

ReplyDeleteThe new booties are fab, Reilly. Maybe your Mum could get you a wagon for the long adventures but then there are adventures right in your own backyard.
ReplyDeleteAwww man Reilly! That's not fun at all! I hope the pills and the shots help. And I know your Mom will still take you on shorter versions of adventures! Your boots are marvelous! They were made for walkin!
ReplyDeleteWe are sorry to hear about your diagnosis Reilly - we are keeping our paws crossed that the medicine and injections help relieve any discomfort you may be having.
