Yesterday we drove all the way to Fernadina Beach on Amelia Island to go and see Fort Clinch State Park. Mom and Dad had been there once before (without us) and Mom thought it would be nice for us to see it. Fort Clinch boosts about having one of the longest fishing piers in Florida and Mom really wanted to see it. We parked in the parking lot, get out, walk to the entrance of the pier only to be greeted with a big 'no dogs allowed sign' - well bummer! We get back on the car and look for somewhere else to explore - sign at the beach - 'no dogs allowed' ...sign at the Fort - 'no dogs allowed' sign at the waterways overlook - 'no dogs allowed'. By this time we were all mighty peeved - why even allow dogs in the park at all if we can't go anywhere???? We couldn't even find just a plain walking trail anywhere - just bike trails and there was crazy people zooming all over those. We left the park feeling so annoyed - Mom rattled on about bike riders doing far more damage to the park than a soft footed doggie paw could ever do and we didn't see a single specimen of wildlife so there was nothing we dogs could be accused of chasing (this is one of the parks reasons for not letting us in certain places) Bah humbug - we are sure all the bike riders make far more noise and scare off far more wildlife than we ever could. So I have decided to rename this place Fort Grinch! We did at least get to go and visit the Amelia Island lighthouse (which is outside of the park) and that made Mom a little bit happier as she loves lighthouses.
We are sorry you couldn't go to this fort. It looks like a cool place to explore.
ReplyDeleteso that's where the Grinch really lives. Thanks fur telling us!
ReplyDeleteWell DARN! I hope you at least enjoyed the car ride! And the lighthouse is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat name is well deserved... how bad that this lycra-freaks are allowed there but no doggies. But after all maybe it was good that you left that place , with that crazy bikers around who are dangerous for peeps&pets...
ReplyDeleteSo unfair! Your mom is right, people do more damage than leashed dogs ever could! Pretty lighthouse, I'm glad you got to visit that at least.
ReplyDeleteWe think YOUR name fur that DOG UNfurendly Place is EXCELLENT!! Shame on them.
ReplyDeleteOh no, that's not fair. I don't understand those rules either. If a dog is well-behaved and has responsible owners, it shouldn't be an issue.
ReplyDeleteNo dogs allowed! We are glad you snuck in
ReplyDeleteSnorts,
Lily & Edward
Maybe people weren't picking up after their dogs so they were banned and ruined it for other responsible dog owners. Sad. I keep waiting for that to happen at the places we hike. The poo abounds - especially this time of year.
ReplyDeleteCrappers. That is so unfair my friends. Dogs have rights too! Stomps hooves for you. XOXO - Bacon
ReplyDeleteFort Clinch - now Fort Grinch! A brilliant re-name! The lighthouse is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely lighthouse!
ReplyDeleteDip and Elliot x
Fort Grinch indeed. Perfect name. What a miserable set of rules.
ReplyDeleteBetter luck on your next adventure guys.
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
They missed out on meeting you!!

That's too bad. I see those kind of rules all the time. It's the bad owner's that cause the problems not the dogs. The lighthouse was cool though.
ReplyDeleteWe just love the lighthouse!!
ReplyDeleteMama says it's funny..here in California we are allowed everywhere near the beache but on the east coast (New Jersey) dogs aren't allowed on most beaches! Crazy talk we say!!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty and Bilbo
Grinch indeed! Wait - did it specify "no Cowspotdogs"? There's a sign at our park that has a picture of a German Shepherd with a slash through it. So I'm pretty sure that just means "no German Shepherds" but any other pups are allowed.
ReplyDeleteYours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
What a bummer! Unfortunately there are a lot of irresponsible dog owners who do pick up after them and ruin it for everyone else. That happened here with Maggie Daley Park. There's a whole movement, Support Chicago Dogs, to get it more dog friendly. Glad your mom got to enjoy the lighthouse. Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteIt is those few who don't pick up after their pets that ruin it for responsible doggies such as yourselves

How rude! That is definitely grinchlike.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's pretty sad! Especially you guys who are always so well behaved at parks and beaches!
ReplyDeletewell thats disappointing. That was one of the RV parks I was plainning to go to. I have a friend who goes their every year. Weird, she had dogs. So I looked up at the the pet policy. It states that at all Florida state parks do not allow dogs on the beach. Sad. I guess I wont be going to any state parks in florida.
ReplyDeleteWe need to contact the company who makes these signs and make them quit making them! So not fair!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
That is a beautiful lighthouse. Super bummer about no dogs allowed. That sure takes the fun out of an adventure.
ReplyDeleteSo THAT'S where the mean old Mr. Grinch lives!!! What a beautiful lighthouse! Your Dad needs to write a letter to Mr. Grinch and explain the absurdity of their rules.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Ciara and Lightning
Well, at least da lighthouse are way cool!
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty much the way it is in Fort Myers, every place we tried to go, no dogs. We are happy we didn't have to go to Florida this year because it wasn't dog friendly where we go.
ReplyDeleteAwe bummer! Our humans love Fort Grinch ;) Maybe a nice stroll though old town Amelia Island? Mom believes it is dog friendly. Of course I am not allowed cause I like to yell at people ;)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Matt
