The Culprits

For days we have been wondering what has been digging up our back yard (and leaving tasty little morsels behind - which for some reason MOM screams at us NOT to eat!!!!!!!) Well today Mom caught the culprits. A whole family of little armadillos. These guys are like little bull dozers - they stick their noses in the grass and away they go - digging big holes looking for fat tasty lawn grubs and if they get stuck they use those big old claws on their front feet to rip the grass out. Mom got really close to them and they just didn't seem to notice her all - (Dad calls Mom a super stealthy ninja though as she moves sooooo quietly ALL the time) We have noticed holes in everyone lawns around our little neighborhood so we guess they are pretty busy most nights and early mornings.

  4. Wow! I NEVER would have figured THAT out! We don't have them here. I don't think anyway. But we have seen them rarely in Alabama. I've never seen them up close..and hardly ever alive, I've seen this on the side of the road flat. They are actually really cute if you don't mind lawn destruction. Looks like they have different markings so you could tell them apart. That is very interesting! Is there a way to get them to stop digging in your yard? Do they bite if they get investigated by, say, a sheltie?

  9. Wow! Your mom really is a stealth ninja...and a brave one at that! She got a lot closer to those armadillos than my mom got at the Georgia park! They are such fascinating little bulldozers, don't you think. It is a shame you have been blamed for their doings.

  21. We get the occasional armadillo in our yard and they do make a mess. If you scare them, they will jump straight up in the air!
