For days we have been wondering what has been digging up our back yard (and leaving tasty little morsels behind - which for some reason MOM screams at us NOT to eat!!!!!!!) Well today Mom caught the culprits. A whole family of little armadillos. These guys are like little bull dozers - they stick their noses in the grass and away they go - digging big holes looking for fat tasty lawn grubs and if they get stuck they use those big old claws on their front feet to rip the grass out. Mom got really close to them and they just didn't seem to notice her all - (Dad calls Mom a super stealthy ninja though as she moves sooooo quietly ALL the time) We have noticed holes in everyone lawns around our little neighborhood so we guess they are pretty busy most nights and early mornings.
oh the one on the right is the armadillo from daim commercial... I'm sure ... how interesting that a cleb lives in your hood :o)
ReplyDeleteBow wow, I'd probably bark at them for hours!
ReplyDelete1 DAY UNTIL THE ELECTION!
I think they are the cutest little things. Look at them - squeals! But at last, I know the destruction most be horrid. Have a great day my friends. XOXO - Bacon
ReplyDeleteWow! I NEVER would have figured THAT out! We don't have them here. I don't think anyway. But we have seen them rarely in Alabama. I've never seen them up close..and hardly ever alive, I've seen this on the side of the road flat. They are actually really cute if you don't mind lawn destruction. Looks like they have different markings so you could tell them apart. That is very interesting! Is there a way to get them to stop digging in your yard? Do they bite if they get investigated by, say, a sheltie?
ReplyDeleteOh but they are so cute!
ReplyDeleteOMD!!! How amazing, you haf your OWN armadillo, and not just one a whole family!!! How cool is that!

Those pointy little ears are totally cute!! We used to see these in Texas..but like someone said above, most of them were on the side of the road.

Wow! Your mom really is a stealth ninja...and a brave one at that! She got a lot closer to those armadillos than my mom got at the Georgia park! They are such fascinating little bulldozers, don't you think. It is a shame you have been blamed for their doings.
ReplyDeleteWow, now that's something we definitely don't see around here!
ReplyDeleteThat's very interesting. Our Jessy has only seen armadillos along the side of the road where she lives in Boca. And here you have a whole family! Wow!
ReplyDeleteHari OM
ReplyDeleteOMD they are sweetsome... as cute as moles, who also leave holes... but I guess, it's not so good for your toileting place! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
OH dear, they are sort of cute, but how do you get them to move to someone else's property?
ReplyDeleteWoos - Lightning and Misty
We have that same problem with some of our duckies. We're sure glad we don't have armadillos here to make matters worse!
ReplyDeleteInteresting creatures but how rude to dig holes in your yard!

Cool little animals. Are they afraid of dogs or do they stand their ground?
ReplyDeleteArmy Dillos. We would love to see them....but we suppose if they are going to do damage, they'll have to go.
ReplyDeleteThey are kinda cute, aren't they?
ReplyDeletePippen
Here in Texas we call them speed bumps. BOL
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Crikey ..... get a load of those blokes. Are they for real or what?? Mum says they are for real but how would she know. She's never seen one. Only in books. I'd sure like to see one of those wandering around here. Can they run??? Oh and I'd be eaten' that poop for sure.
ReplyDeleteWe get the occasional armadillo in our yard and they do make a mess. If you scare them, they will jump straight up in the air!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there were armadillos in Florida, mom lived in Texas and they were there. Won't your mom let you out to chase them away? Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteHaha - our pups dig up our yard. I'm wondering if I could convince Aaron it was a pack? herd? of armadillos instead?
ReplyDeleteMonty, Harlow, and Ramble
We know nothing about those creatures but have always thought they look prehistoric.
ReplyDeleteWow! And they're wearing suits of armor!!! I think they mean business!
ReplyDeleteYours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
