A couple of weeks ago we saw our little buddy Freckles (Little Goose) had a recipe for some mint and parsley cookies that help freshen breath. Now it just so happens that we have and over abundance of both so mom decided to try the recipe with a few adaptations ....she just can't leave anything alone! (Note - Mom made the mistake of letting the parsley go to seed last year and now it is growing everywhere !!!!!)
Here is Freckles recipe with our adaptations in red
Ingredients:
1 cup of Beef, Chicken, or Fish Stock (make sure it doesn't contain onion) (Mom changed this out for 1 jar of lamb and vegetable baby food because it has added vitamins)
1 cup of finely chopped Fresh Parsley
1 cup of finely chopped Fresh Mint
2 tablespoons Canola Oil
2 1/3 cups of Whole Wheat Flour (plus more for rolling out) (She changed this out for rice flour)
added 1/3 cup of water
Directions:
First you have to chop all the herbs - we did this by just putting in the food processor with the flour. Then just add the other ingredients and wizz until if forms a clump. You can do it by hand too - Mom is just to lazy :)
Next - roll out the dough - we made ours fairly thin. Mom made us some cool shaped cookies which are larger and are for special treats and then the rest she just cut into 1" squares to use as training treats. Pop them into a 350 degress F over for 30 minutes and then wait for them to cool. They don't really change color much - just go crispy.
Here are some of the shapes we used - the dog house, fire hydrant and shelties shapes. We each got to try the big sheltie shapes - Hey Mom - there is something not quite right about us eating our own likeness - but thankfully we didn't care cause dog oh dog those cookies taste great.
The other thing we found is they stay nice and crunchy if you pop them in a zip lock bag and the parsley and mint act a natural preservative so they keep well too. Now you are probably wondering do they actually freshen breathe - that is a big YES - (not that we have bad breath so I am not sure how Mom knows this!!!!) Either way it is a yummy win win. Thanks Freckles for the recipe :)
