Seriously annoyed and angry

The Mom is so angry - some STUPID and UNTHINKING person(s) have put goldfish into MY lake. These are quite large 6"- 8" long and and we assume someone cleared out their own pond or something as we saw at least 60 of them in 3 different places.  Mom contacted the park director and sent him the photos - but of coarse we haven't heard anything back. Mom has also contacted the parks and fisheries department but she fears it is probably too late for them do anything now.

Now for those that don't know - goldfish are in the carp family and will quickly revert back to their wild carp form in a lake or river. Here is some information we found about them.

Carp competes with native fish for spawning habitat and food.  They predate on other species fish eggs, fingerlings and  other small fish.

It is also completely irresponsible, illegal, and potentially catastrophic to the ecosystem. The fish readily breed, can survive all temperatures and then out-compete native species. Please never put tropical or cold water aquarium fish into lakes of rivers.

  1. I hope you get a response back soon, and that the goldfish dont cause too much damage.

  2. Sounds like someone had a pond and was moving or something and dumped them in. Sigh. People are so dumb. It is nice that you took all that time to try and help them.

  3. I'm angry with your mom. That's a no-go to dump animals like those fishies in a lake. Probably people who do things like that have no idea about the consequences. The weirdest thing we saw was a snake what was dumped near our sewage plant. I hope the staff of your park can solve that problem. Have a good sunday.

  4. That was a very nasty thing to do. Really some people? Have a serene Sunday and let us all partake of some big easy today.

  5. Just another example of people that just don't care about anything but themselves. Hoping your officials get something done.

  6. You'd think it took some effort to do that and someone must have seen them!

  7. We live in the Murray-Darling Basin, near the Murrumbidgee River, we know how bad carp are for the ecosystem... Hope it's not too late...

  8. This one has OUR hackles up TOO. It is not as though this has not happened BEFORE and Been DISCUSSED OVER AND OVER and the BAD EFFECTS ENUMERATED Time and Time again.
Some Peeps are just plain MEAN and IGNORANT.
SHAME on ANYONE who would EVER turn loose.. ANY non native species of PLANT or ANIMAL life.
Bravo to your mom fur letting the authorities know.

  10. Oh boy, I really hope they get back to you soon and get those fishes out of there! Some people just don't care at all about the things they do, they're just fish, right? They don't think at all. This would really make my Momma mad, too.

  12. We know ALL about carp. They've nearly wrecked the fishing here and the rivers.

When we go to the river, we find lots of dead carp that have been caught. We have so many programs to get rid of them.....but they just keep breeding.

    Some people are soooooo STUPID!

  13. We don't know anything about fish stuff, but that is so sad that stupid peeps might ruin your lake. We hope the park guys can figure out a solution quickly.

  14. Dougall the Scottie and Bella and Roxy have said it all for me. We have so many problems in Australia because of stupid, idiotic, half wits like those ridiculously irresponsible morons that would do something like that. Sorry about all the nasty words. I don't usually use them but you can't call them people. People are nice!! So many of our beautiful river systems have been ruined by carp. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!! I'm angry too.

  15. Ignorance is a dangerous thing. The owners probably thought they were letting the fish "free". The fisheries biologists should have some solutions to try. If you have any carnivorous fish in the lake already, maybe the commenter who pointed out that these little ones are easy targets will be right. I hope.

Around here anyway, those fish sell for some big prices for people's yard ponds. The owners should have tried Craigslist.

  16. We HATE when people do things like that. You know I am in South Florida...land of the non-native species takeovers...because irresponsible people dump unwanted, non-native, exotic pets into canals and such. All of which lead out to the Everglades and thus those species devastate that fragile ecosystem. I am so sorry this happened to your lake, my friends.

  17. We thought those were gold fish when we first saw the photos but couldn't understand why they'd be in a lake. What a stupid, stupid thing to do!
