Our beach is pretty much sand - it is rare to find shells, seaweed or anything interesting washed up (apart from the occasional horseshoe crab) but today we found some clumps of driftwood. Moms mind was working over time thinking how cool it would be to put a glass top on it and turn it into a coffee table. Thankfully it was covered in very smelly shells so she didn't bring it home :) Mom was also pondering over the trip this driftwood took - did it travel the seas and come from the Bahamas or even further? It is kind of sad too - Mom noticed a lot of trash in the water as they were cruising to the Bahamas and it made her realize the oceans are not as pristine as we like to think they are.
Mom is really enjoying your new home. You guys are taking to beach life.
ReplyDeleteI agree it's great to ponder what history such a treasure could have. Maybe that's a part of a pirates ship or it came from a treasure island... my mom planned to make a christmas tree with driftwood, but she couldn't find enough pieces... fortunately... who knows how such a diy-project will end?
ReplyDeleteOMD, are are luckkkkyyyyyy, my mom would have hauled that stinky thing home and started neglecting us trying to make something out of it! Whew, y'alls got lucky!

Things are changing for sure. I remember on our cruise to the Bahamas, the water was so clear and blue. Of course that was 25 years ago.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I wonder where the driftwood had come from? Wouldn't it be cool to find a message in a bottle on your beach?
ReplyDeleteI'd send one over but as Mom says, the sea is full enuffs with thingys as it is

PeeS Reilly you look sooo cute with you head tilt in the second photo, you really look curious as though thinking on the driftwood's travels
Bet you two are glad your mom and dad are home aren't you. And now you got to go for a lovely walk on your beach! Life is pretty good!
ReplyDeleteThat piece of wood probably traveled a great distance to end up on your shore. We have done great harm to our oceans and the creatures that call it home. I don't understand how people can still be littering in 2015 when we know how bad it is for the environment. (stepping off soapbox now)
ReplyDeleteMum sometimes brings driftwood and shell home but you are right, they can be a bit stinky.

I love your beach walks!!
ReplyDeleteHow cool would it be if the piece of driftwood could talk and tell you all about his travels!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty beach. So glad you are BACK!

That's interesting to ponder where this piece of wood came from. We would put it in the garden.
ReplyDeleteWe cannot believe that people who want to use the environment, can't keept it clean! That driftwood is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to get that driftwood home. I've often thought about doing making something from a piece of driftwood too but haven't ever done it yet.
ReplyDeleteA long time ago mom lived close to Tybee Island right outside of Savannah, she loved finding drift wood. We don't find that here in iowa. stellie rose
ReplyDeleteIf only that driftwood could talk - we would learn a lot about its travels. We hope Mom and Dad enjoyed their cruise - ours had a grand time a couple of years ago when they took all the kids and grandkids.

Driftwood can be really neat sometimes. My mom used to have a driftwood lamp.
ReplyDeleteMama says she is always amazed at the junk she sees underwater when she does the scuba diving thing!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!
