The Truth and Bob

Mom is such a spoil sport - she says I HAVE to tell the truth about not going for walkies with her - SIGH. You see - ever since I had that foot surgery a few months ago - I haven't been able to walk very far - my limit is to the end of our street (about 6 houses) and on the beach - I can walk to the breakwater and back which is about the same distance. My mind is willing and I will try and keep going but I also start limping badly so Mom won't allow me to go any further now. We do go on lots of short walks but my days of big long adventures are sadly a thing of the past.

For those that don't remember I had a tumor removed from my foot and that meant removing half my big pad and with the arthritis I have in my toes they kind of point in all different directions - it is even hard for Mom to get my boots on these days! So as much as Mom would LOVE to take me walkies with her - it just isn't possible and of coarse the Dweeb can't go because he is terrified of the traffic and basically anything he thinks is dangerous like trash cans, fire hydrants, bushes, letter boxes - you get the idea :)

Talking of walkies though - look who Mom saw yesterday morning - she is calling him Bob - (how original Mom considering he is a Bobcat!!!!) On the next street over from ours there are two blocks of empty land side by side (almost like a mini park) and this is where she saw him. Mom says she is amazed how many creatures there are living all around our neighborhood.

  1. Reilly we are sad to hear your big adventure walks are a thing of the past. Give mom a really good sniff whenever she comes home and you can dream of the adventures vicariously!
We don't want you in any pain, since you've been through enough with the arthritis and cancer.

  2. Mr. Reilly, Katie is very sad that your foot hurts when you go on long walkies...but she's very glad that you get to go to the beach at all! She sends kisses in hopes that they make you feel a little less sad. Also Katie-hugs. Those usually work too.

And Bob? WOW! How close was your mom? It looks like she was about 2 feet away. We would have been too scared to move! Or maybe we would have run away really fast! Your mom is very brave!

  3. Bob is one GORGEOUS wild cat. He's a clever cat to find a way to live in the middle of people's homes. What an amazing photo!
I'm sorry to hear that the walks are so short nowadays. Enjoy the beach air and savor each one :)

Oh Reilly - I had not forgotten your paw, but also had not quite realised how much it had restricted your activity now. As one with arthritis, I oughtta appreciate there is only just so far one can push the body, right??!! Maybe mum could think about a No-Walking Wagon for you??? Then you can all still go exploring together... Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  11. Have you guys tried using vet wrap around the toes and foot to hold everything together and give support during walks? Yes, you'd go through a good bit of vet wrap for each walk, but, I think it would be well worth it if it means longer walks are possible.

  12. Short walkies are better than no walkies at all. We have to try to stay positive, right, Reilly. We are really sorry, buddy.

  13. We're sorry about the short walkies now. SHE knows all about the mind being willing...... We would have let Bob know whose 'hood he was in.....very loudly.

  14. We're so sorry your footy-foot is keeping you from your long adventures! Your mom is smart to limit your activities, though. I mean, SOMETIMES bipeds can be right. SOMETIMES.
Bob is SO COOL! I hope your mom is super careful! WOW!

  17. So sorry you can't walk very far, maybe your Mum could take you in the wagon and you could do short patrols of the more interesting bits.

  18. Hi there. We have followed your story through your blog. We think that Reilly is extra good looking and we're sorry that his foot is still causing problems and limiting his mobility. So being a little pushy, we have some suggestions and alternatives. I (Sam) swim in a hot water pool every weekend. This might help Reilly maintain strength in the foot that still hurts as well as overall as he needs to move all his feets to swim in a virtual weightless environment. Another suggestion is lasering (https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3340418788516155910#editor/target=post;postID=4046933846044290571;onPublishedMenu=template;onClosedMenu=template;postNum=28;src=postname) to help with the arthritis and inflammation, acupuncture may also help. The other thing you could try is to contact the folks at Eddie's Wheels (http://eddieswheels.com/) telephone them to see if they can make Reilly a chair that will help support him as he walks. Perhaps he could suspend his sore foot and use wheelchair and Reilly's other three legs to zip along. You'd be surprised how fast I can move with just two front legs (http://mydogsam01.blogspot.ca/2015/02/my-mom-thought-that-her-camera-phone.html). That's it for now. We're not implying that your mom isn't doing lots for you. But we wanted to put forward some ideas that might help you. We're just pushy Canadians :)

  19. you poor sweetie, I agree with Helen that maybe you could go in your wagon? Sorry, but I wouldn't be too comfortable with "Bob" running around out there....I don't think he is looking for just some catnip either! DakotasDen

  20. What does the vet say about your limping. I would continue taking it easy so you don't injure yourself again. It sure is a bummer, though.

  24. Sorry to hear about your walkies, you won't ever be able to walk more, even with a bootie? I am so sorry to hear that. We hope Bob doesn't find that kitty your mom sees. Love Dolly
