It was a bright sunny day until we reached the beach and then there was a thick sea fog rolling in off the water. It is hard to tell in the photos but trust us - it was like pea soup! Visibility was down to about 150 feet. It didn't stop us from enjoying our walkies as who needs to see when there is so much to sniff. Mom was a bit disappointed though as we kept hearing ships horns blowing as they were entering or leaving the river but we couldn't see them so no photos of the boats today. On the way back to the car we did notice this cool halo effect and it actually had all the color of the rainbow in it. The sun was behind Mom when she took this picture so this was the light reflecting through the fog that created it.
Mama loves walking and listening to the foghorn during the fog here, it does get a little spooky though!!

Was it all spooky like a horror film hearing the horns but not seeing the boats?

So glad you got to go to the beach, even though it was foggy. I well remember the damp chill it can give one but you both have your heavy coats to keep you warm. WE have snow here today so are just staying inside.
ReplyDeleteHappy Tuesday.

One time mom and her family got caught leaving Tybee Island in pea soup it was scary she said.

I love that kind of weather... we only need a lighthouse and we are in the middle of one of Mr. Kings stories :o)

Oh, foggy day...why must you ruin my pals trip to the beach?!? Your mom still got some great photos though!
ReplyDeleteI think the sea fog makes for interesting photos..though I suppose you guys don't care about photos so much as sniffings. Say hello to your folks for us! And happy bark day to your mom tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a nice rainbow. Yesterday we saw a sun dog in the clouds. That's when the sun hits ice crystals in the clouds and it looks like a little chip of a rainbow. Check out the first sunset picture in our post from yesterday on The Daily Bone.
ReplyDeleteIn Aberdeen the fog that rolls in from the sea is called the 'haar'. It forms usually in spring and summer when warm, moisture containing air from the land hits the cooler temperatures near the sea and so the moisture condenses.
ReplyDeleteOh. Gail says you probably weren't looking for a science lesson…
