Our first top was the vintage car museum - which of coarse was closed. But there was this neat little service station next door and the towns first police car that we thought we would have a look at. The pumps said gas was 38 cents a gallon - Mom said she wishes those pumps were still working :) As for the police car - I am pretty sure even we could out run that thing :)
Next we headed down the main street to see if anything was open - and yes - the old time candy shoppe was. We waited outside (unfairly I might add) while Mom went in and had a look but she didn't find anything that tempted her. I am sure if we had gone with her we could of found something. We passed a few of the
The next thing we came across was this little Dulcimer shop. A dulcimer is a kind of small harp. Mom loves the sound of them and even though the lady in the store said anyone can learn to play them Mom knows better as she doesn't have even a drop of musical ability and knows she can't play one (trust us - she has tried and it was painful to our ears!)
Our last stop was the Pig 'N' Whistle Pub. Now really it is just an ordinary store that has been converted into a restaurant but it is owned by an English couple and they do serve real English food. Mom loves going there for Bangers and Mash (English Sausages and mashed potato) or Fish and Chips or a Cornish Pasty. Sadly it closes between October to April so there was no yummies for Mom today. The little Mini is a real English car complete with right hand drive and stays permanently out front of the pub. I think we would look pretty snazzy driving around in that! We still have some more to share of our adventure so come back tomorrow for part 3!
Bangers and Mash, yum, yum !ReplyDelete

So Sorry that your mom did not get her Bangers and Mash or Fish and Chips... BUTT it WAS a nice visit to the past..
36 ¢ fur GAS.... Our mom can remember paying 50¢ when she was FURST driving and 55¢ once out in the Arizona Desert... about 15years ago.
Wow, a little bit of England in deepest Arkansas.ReplyDelete
Gail says she learned to drive in her Granny's Mini, just like that one (except with no Union Jack on the roof).
What a fun visit.
Ps Did you know that whenever you tell us about a trip to some other part of Arkansas, Gail always looks where it is on google maps to see if she has visited anywhere close. But really, she only ever visited the NW corner of the state (and SW Missouri)
SHE used to have a mini (two in fact) when SHE had an Irish Wolfhound and Scottish Deerhound X. Got some funny looks when those dogs unfolded out of the back seat!ReplyDelete
Great little place to wander in....
Mom is really getting the urge to go on a sight seeing vacation now!ReplyDelete

All dat food talk made me hungry.ReplyDelete
Crikey ..... that sure is a cute town!! Shame there was no bangers and mash!! You'll have to go back when the pubs open, aye?? Did Mum ever get nostalgic over that mini. Her VERY first car was a mini. When she started working she saved like mad and when she had enough money she bought herself a brand new mini just like that red one only hers was DUCKSHELL blue!! 'Those were the days' says Mum. She reckons petrol was only 20cents a gallon or something but maybe she's forgotten because she is ancient and she does forget things.ReplyDelete
Looks like you did lots of discovering!ReplyDelete
Murphy & Stanley
