A bit of this and a bit of that

It has been raining all day today - heavy pouring rain and lots of thunder - so no walkies.  But as a dog who always has something to say - I thought I would get around to answering a couple of question that have appeared in the comments lately. So here we go.

Question 1 - do we ever dig in the sand or roll on the seaweed at MY beach. The answer is no - we have never shown any interest in digging (have never done it at home either although the Dweeb will occasionally "dig" at the rug to make it more comfortable to lay on) and sadly there has only ever been ONE time at my beach when some seaweed washed up and YES - I did enjoy a good roll on it. For some reason my beach is "too" perfect. Lots of flat white sand and nothing else. Hardly anything ever washes up apart from the occasional jelly fish and it is VERY rare to even find any shells. Mom says it is sunbathers delight beach but not much fun at for  us beachcomber types looking for treasures :)

Question 2 - how does Mom get us to pose so well for our photos. Sigh ! - trust me this is not something we enjoy but we have been doing it for so many years now that the moment Mom says "wait" we know just to sit/lay still and get the photo's over quickly so we can go back to sniffing. Well at least I do....Dweeb just plods along next to Mom's feet and NEVER sniffs anything - there is something seriously wrong with that boy - he won't even pee when we go out on walkies! One other thing - can you believe Mom doesn't even carry treats on our walk so we do all that posing for FREE - isn't this against some doggie modeling rules?

An update - You may also remember we have had two snake in MY backyard - a brown garter snake and then a few weeks later a  turquoise garter snake - both of which are quite harmless. What is odd is we saw both of them in exactly the same spot by the fence. Well look what I found on Tuesday - the snake skin and you guessed it - it was in exactly the same spot where we saw the two snakes previously. Mom says she has now seen MORE snakes while living here in the USA then she ever did in all her 40 years back in Australia.

We are hoping all this stormy weather will churn up the sea a little and there might be some treasures to find in the next few days - providing we can convince Mom to go out in the cold  - yesterday it was 80 degrees and tomorrow they are only forecasting 50 and that is FREEZING to Mom :)

  4. According to the Yum Yum Coalition Guide for Doggie Employment, kept and updated by Joey dog, the standard pay for doggies posing for photographs is two yum yum doggie treats. Just saying.

Our Jessy who lives near the Everglades, says sometimes there are gigantic, huge snakes that can eat an alligator, or anything else they find. These snakes are not native, but escaped captivity or were let go. Hopefully you don't get any of these in your yard!

  5. Well that IS a lot of work for free, though sometimes Katie works for free to because I forget her treats. She's used to it too. She does protest by turning her head away though. Don't you guys start doing that! I hope you find lots of wonderful (Read smelly) things on the beach tomorrow!

  10. Modeling for free???? You should probably report that to the authorities. Blueberry would never let me get away with that. That's cool about the snakes. I don't mind them if they are harmless. Oh! And maybe your human could bury treasure for you in the sand before taking you out there!

  11. Can't believe you don't dig! Our river beach is always filled with stuff, mussel shells, dead fish, food......fast food rubbish, beer tins, baby nappies....yuck!

It's somewhere South of the 'fifty degrees' (10'C) here today - AND chucking it down. Hey ho... Really, mum didn't see snakes in OZ? I saw many in my 25 years resident there - AND saw one on the recent return visit! Red belly black snakes mostly, but occasionally others. But then I lived on the outskirts of Sydney (near Kuring-gai Chase)... and compost heaps are big invitations for such critters! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  15. I think your mom is breaking union rules by not giving you treats. Maybe you should file an official grievance?

  16. Snakes are awful. If mom sees one, she will never go to that place again. Years ago, she saw one while mowing the lawn and that was it. She hired someone to mow from that point on. She is terrified of snakes. Be careful, some of them are dangerous.

  17. wow is that true? your mom really saw more snakes in the us than in oz? maybe then there is hope that my momma can visit oz once?

  18. You guys are so awesome. I like to think of it as being that you have been with your mom for so long that you just "know" each other. Kind of like me and my mom. She tells me key words and I know what to do. Totally respectful and much love. Now the slithery things - shivers. We have some in our back yard so that is why I can't go out back until mom checks things over. Icky. Ya'll be safe my friends and have a fabulous weekend! XOXO - Bacon

  20. Everyone needs to know that the beaches on OUR side of Florida (East Coast) do not have many shells on them. However, if you head to the other side (West Coast on the Gulf), it is a shelling and beach combers paradise! Sanibel Island is known for shelling! Oh, I love when I find a snake skin in the back yard...though this year, we have rarely seen my Southern Black Racer snake. Maybe he left for a better yard.
