The Lonely Walker

There is not a single day goes by when Mom doesn't find something to be thankful for - and at this time of year it is every tree and flower, sunny days and shady trees, gentle breezes and blue skies. Of coarse she says she blessed beyond belief to have us too :)  But one thing that does make Mom sad - every day she always  gives a cheerful smile and a happy 'hello' or 'good morning' to people we pass by - but it is VERY rare anyone ever responds with a smile or hello back. So even though Mom loves our walks and being with us - sometimes walking makes her feel kind of sad and lonely. We tried to tell her that people just don't notice anymore because they all have those silly iphones and earphones and are listening to music or busy talking and are all too wrapped up in their own worlds to notice the rest of the world around them. Mom says she just misses the days people would stop for chat. So today one other thing we are forever grateful and thankful for - is all of our online friends - who are always there every day with a kind word and a smile - thank you to all of you :)

  2. I certainly would stop and chat; maybe dog people are just like that. Enjoy your walks!

  3. Oh that is terrible, just terrible, so sad. Gail is remembering a comment from a girl from the Czech Republic who was staying with a friend here in Aberdeen and came hiking with us. She said how nice it was that everyone we passed on our walk in the hills said a cheery hello. And that's how it is even in the city when I go out walking in the park with Gail. You really need to come to Scotland!

  4. It is the same over here and actually it is only dog walkers who stop to talk we notice. How sad. Have a marvellous Monday.

  5. Remind Mom she never knows what a difference that hello might make that she never finds out about because it only hits people later.

She may be spreading more joy than she realizes.

  6. Oh squeal - we so agree!! Your mom is like my mom. She is *forever* saying hello to peeps as she passes them. Hardly no one ever replies back :( It's almost like she is invisible or something. It's a shame. XOXO - Bacon

  7. Oh Cowspot dogs……I am so greatful for having you and your mom, Bree in my life! Ever since I found you on Facebook, the first thing I do every morning before I head off to work is look to see what you have been up to. From the beautiful things that your Cowspot mom makes, to the fun days you share with us, always bring a smile to my heart. Even my moml, who does not use a computer, asks….what are the Cowspots doing, as I share your information with her, too. Thank you for you and your family, because you bring a smile to my face everyday!!!

She says it is even different from town to town and Store to Store...

  12. Awwww...Reilly and Denny, you just have to wiggle your happy butts more so that people will stop and tell your Mom how cute you are! When I used to run the runners going the other way almost always raised a hand or smiled and nodded, sometimes even said HI to me as they went buy. Maybe it's a regional thing.

  13. Hmmm, my Ma would have to agree with your mom. It is so sad when you walk by someone and they don't even acknowledge your "hello" or "good morning/day/evening". That's why we love going camping! Camping people are not "plugged in"...they are walking around, aware and enjoying nature. Everyone says hello when you are camping and hiking!
    Happy Monday pals,

  15. Wow, I totally agree! Why not share a word or a bark or a smile? Those darn phones just interrupt everything. More peeps should stop and smell the roses and they just don't realize that they are missing out on meeting such great peeps and pooches. I wish everywhere was a furiendly as Blogville. We are so lucky here. :)
    Hey Greta!
Wow, you look gorgeous in pink for your shopping trip! That sounds like fun and free foodables is a wonderful surprise. My Mom is going all squeeeee for those Star Wars toys. BOL

  16. Your mom and our mom are a lot alike, I think! When we took her for a walk the other day, she said a hearty "good morning!" to some lady out walking (and I use the term "lady" loosely). She just looked at mom and frowned. OK. Then this big guy was running on the trail toward us, so we pulled over to let him pass. Mom gave him a "good morning", too - and do you know what? He gave her a BIG SMILE and said "good morning!" and asked her how she was and stuff! It made her day! He erased all the negativity from that "lady". There really ARE people out there who will smile back! :)

  18. Wows, you mean they have that stuff in their ears out there in that beautiful park????? Are they nuts???? Man, sorry that peep do that. Wells, my Ma says she NEVER will run or walk with anythings in her ears cause she's paranoid of bein' attacked by a serial killer, so she's gotta keep her ears open!!
(seriously...she watches WAY too much Discovery ID!!!)
Anyhu, we are so glads you take us on your walks with you and even more glads that your Moms does those 'wiggle walk' videos so we can see your wiggle butts!!!! hehehe
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  19. We still get the 'G'day' from people when we walk and occasionally people stop and chat...but, it seems to be changing here, too, with younger people. It is sad.

  20. Silly peeps - don't they know how marvelous it would be to stop and chat with your Mom - she has the most interesting voice, and she always knows so much about everything. If we met you on a walk, we can guarantee we would all give you and your MOm a royal greeting.

  21. I was brought up by a couple big time "greeters"...I swear my parents talk to EVERYBODY (we've had people my mom met on the bus over for christmas dinner). So, it's in my genes to at least say hello or smile at strangers. Sorry people aren't reciprocating your sweet hellos. I think it is only going to get worse with this digital age.

  22. Lately we are finding more people are smiling back with a few kind words. We thought maybe it was because of the cold cold winter that people are just happy to be out an about. Well it would be so much fun to walk together, if only we could.
    Thanks for being a friend

  23. It's too bad everyone is in such a rush all the time. I bet we could spend weeks catching up if we ran into each other on a walk. Around here, most people don't even know their neighbor's names! I'm lucky because my peep has the friendliest neighbors who talk to me all the time.

  32. I feel exactly the same way, walking with your dog is very lonely and we depend on the company of our dogs. Its not uncommon for people to comment on what a cute dog Dolly is but I understand about what you mean when no one says hello back. The Lady
