The Seven Year Rug

Seven years ago (just before I came along) Mom started working on a latch hook rug based on one her favorite Aussie paintings. Over the years when ever she has time gets bored she drags it out and does a bit more work on it. As you can see there is really only one corner to finish. It is 6 foot by 4 foot and is very heavy so Mom usually sits of the floor to work on it. Now us - being the ever nosy and inquisitive helpful doggies that we are .....we often come and sit with her but for some reason she doesn't always appreciate our assistance. She grumbles about us adding extra weight ...but it is soooo soft and comfy to lay on. Mind you - it took the Mom a whole week to get to Dweeb to actually come close to it and another few days after that before he would sit on it !!!! Now of coarse she can't get his fluffy butt off it.  Mom isn't sure if she is EVER going to be able to finish it because she can no longer get two of the wool colors she used and she isn't sure what she has left will be enough - doh Mom - you didn't think that one out all those years ago did you? Oh - for those that don't know - those are goannas - large lizards that can grow 3-4 foot long.

  1. It is beautiful. We know certain family members who have had knitting and tapestry projects on the go for ever. It would be a miracle if they were ever finished. Have a fabulous Friday.

  3. Beautiful. Hope Mom finds the yarn to complete it. We like to help Mom with her crochet. We keep the yarn warm by sitting on it, inspect her stitches to make sure she's counted right, and then leave a bit of extra hair to make sure its warm enough. After all these modern yarns aren't wool so a little Sheltie hair helps the cause. Some how Mom doesn't see it that way when she's mumumuring about Sheltie hair all over her projects.

  9. BRAVO! I love the colors, they are wonderful! and I bet it's a masterpiece when you and your mom finished the work. I worst case you could sit on the unfinished parts, so no one will notice that you haven't finished your work :o)

  10. My mom made a quilt once and I think she worked on it for a decade! By then, the colors she picked (70's yellows & oranges) were so out of style.

Your carpet looks amazing, can't blame you two for sitting on it. I bet it is nice and comfy. Hope you have enough yarn to finish it off.

  11. That is gorgeous. SHE loves Aboriginal paintings. Your mum may have to get a quilting frame or something so you could sit under it....until it's finished.
