I swear Mom has gone to the birds - she suddenly has this fascination for taking pics of dumb old
birds instead of us. Now personally I am not a fan of the flashy beast - Mom is ALWAYS interrupting my Bark Ranger Patrol duties to take silly photos - but birds - plllllleeeeeaseee how can they be interesting!
Anyhoo there I was doing my patrol duties around the lake and stopped to take a little rest on the dock and look what appeared. Remember the juvenile gallinules we saw last week - well today we saw one the adults with the bright red beak. We also saw this poor old ibis - who looks like he is resting on one leg - but sadly his other leg was actually broken and he was having to hop on one foot. (We stopped in MY park ranger office on the way home to let them know about him and they were going to send someone out to check on him and see if they could help him). And lastly we saw of pair of these turkey vultures - those were big mean looking dudes. They both stood about 2 foot tall - yikes - we didn't like the look of them or the way they were looking at us - especially the one up on the roof top!

ReplyDeleteThanks for letting mum point the flashy beast in another direction Cowspots... am rather a fan of the feathered types myself! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Those birds are sorta scary looking, we used to have a gazillion of those vultures that sit on the cell tower that was in the jailhouse yard (only in small towns...lol) finally the sheriff got tired of having to clean up all that poop so everyday at 5am they would shoot fireworks off to scare them away, the next morning it would start all over again.................um.....................stella rose
ReplyDeleteWe don't want to side with mom, maybe only for 87 seconds, butt those birds are so cool
ReplyDeleteLily & Edward
When I see birds, I think....dinner! Although I've never had a bird dinner before except for maybe a piece of turkey on Thanksgiving. Looking at that vulture, I think he'd look at me and think.."dinner"
ReplyDeleteI soooo get it Reilly, Mama always stops our hikes 87 million times to take pictures of birds....and flowers...and bugs...
ReplyDeletesheesh, don't the Mamas know we have important duties to tend to??!!

We get ducks and Geese fly over our house sometimes. Hawks fly over too but we have never seen one of those turkey vultures.

Birds should definitely be chased.....not the other way around. We don't like the way that Turkey Vulture is lookin' you up and down either.
ReplyDeletelove the red-headed Adult Gallinule
ReplyDeleteOur mom is nut-so over birdies, too. She LOVES your mom's photos. We don't mind, because in cooler weather, we often get extra outings and longer walks to help her find different birdies. It's a win-win that way!
ReplyDeleteCammie!
Anything that is a vulture is scary!!! Just the name is scary!!! So good of your Mom to tell the Ranger about the hurt bird - hope he will be OK.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Ciara and Lightning
We enjoyed seeing all of those birdies! If you ever travel to the Boca Raton area, be sure to check out Flamingo Gardens. They take in birds, such as spoonbills, gallinules, ibis, pellicans, and others, that have been injured and cannot be released into the wild again. You'd love it there!
ReplyDeleteBummer with the broken leg. I wonder if he will have crutches next time you see him?
ReplyDeleteSome of those definitely need some barkin.
ReplyDeleteOMD! I didn't knows that Turkey Vultures actually LOOKED kinda like a turkey!!! BOL! I thoughts they just liked turkey!!! BOL!!! Ma said I was nutty, butts .... okay, whatevers.
ReplyDeletePoor burdie! I hopes the Ranger dude is able to find and help Mr. Ibis! I'll send him some POTP
Good job scaring those creepy Turkey vultures! Nows they know it's YOUR park!

Oh I hope Mr Ibis gets all fixed up. Mom always carries the injured ducks in our neighborhood up to the wild life clinic. They fix them up and then release them back where they found them :)
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you about those turkey vultures they kinda freak us out.
