Every year around this time we start seeing Scottie Christmas EVERYTHING (cards, statues, cookies, ornaments and so on - you would be AMAZED to see what Amazon has if you search Scottie Christmas) and we wondered WHEN and WHY the Scottie became the "Christmas dogs?" We are thinking it is because Scotties are also associated with Tartan and Tartan has a Christmas feel to it.
This year we have also noticed white Scotties or Westies and also this little brown terrier type and yes - even pugs (that is them in the red sweaters but Mom didn't get a good pic of them front on. We searched all over the intermutts but didn't find any real answer. If you like these guys (and who doesn't) they are available at Hobby Lobby Stores and they are $14.99 - less if you use their 40% off coupon which you can online or you get it on your phone.
Not sure why they are the dog of choice for Christmas (Mum's seen them in London too!) but lets face it, they do look cute don't they ? We luffs our Scottie and Westie furfriends

Well, believe it or not but Scottish Terriers can be black or white! Who knew?!? And those white ones look like Scotties...Westies would have a shorter muzzle, like me (they are the white version of a Cairn Terrier). I would have to agree with you that maybe they come out a lot as decorations around the holidays because of the tartan. Otherwise, there is just no explanation!

That's an interesting question and I would like to hear if someone has an answer. We could ask Kyla, maybe she knows it? But I think so, it's probably the tartan-christmas-connection :o)
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm...interesting phenomenon.
ReplyDeleteThey are cute dogs!
We don't know the reason either...butt they surely are cute.
ReplyDeleteWell, you're probably right about the tartan, but who said Cowspotdogs and rottweilers don't look festive in tartan?!? We've had tartan collars the last two Christmases!! *sigh*

Perhaps it's not so surprising that the Scotties and Westies have cornered the Christmas market here in Scotland too…

Very cute!!! Do they come in black and tan??? No? Yeah, we never see any Airedale stuffs either. I don't thinks we are associated with any holiday either, so I'm outta luck too. Bummer.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should start a Cowspotdog and Airedale holiday just so we can gets the tchotchkes! BOL

True, but we usually see just black Scotties with the red plaid bows.
ReplyDeleteOH how we love a Westie Christmas!!!!! HOpe you guys are well!
ReplyDeleteThey all look like Scotties to me. Even the wheaten one. They're here in Australia too. EVERYWHERE!! We saw them in Beechworth. I think it's a great choice for a Christmas pup!! Maybe Santa had one and that's the connection!! Scotties rule, aye??
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just cuz westies are da besties. Oh, and scotties are pretty good too. ;)
ReplyDeleteScottie?? We just can't see it from our viewpoint.

My daughter would love a Christmas Pierre! (She would prefer we bring her boy to her!) Bentley wonders why Bassets aren't the Christmas Ho-Ho-Hound.
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmm...that is a very good question....

Westies are cute...but we know one and let me tell you, it's crazy! Even more crazy than Katie!!
ReplyDeleteOMP! You are so right - scotties everywhere! My mom and dad went on a field trip to Warm Springs, GA this past weekend. Mom even mentioned about how many scotties she saw everywhere in the shops - pictures, cups, plates, EVERYTHING. It was so weird. Trust me - I know because I saw the pictures on her phone - snorts. XOXO - Bacon
ReplyDeleteI'd welcome a Cowspot Christmas Doggie.
