My interpretation of Mom :) |
Now we know many of you further up north may think she is crazy - especially when it is a lovely 47 degrees and bright and sunny today but you see there is a another reason she does this - she suffers with something called Raynaud's disease.
Raynaud's (ray-NOHZ) disease causes some areas of your body — such as your fingers and toes — to feel extremely numb and cold in response to cold temperatures. The blood supply to these areas are often constricted which causes poor circulation. Now this is not just a winter thing although it is much worse this time of year - it can include being near freezers or cold displays at a store, being in air conditioned buildings, handling cold items or drinks, taking items out of a freezer..... etc - Mom even needs to wear gloves to go shopping if she getting anything out of the refrigerator/freezer section.
So having Raynaud's makes it very hard for Mom to take us walkies during winter as it only takes a few minutes for her fingers and toes to get so cold they are painful. Now Mom being the brave soul she is and because she loves us so much...... rugs up as much as she can just so we can get at least a few minutes of exercise and sniffing in. Of coarse us being long furred doggies we LOVE this weather and we give off lots of heat - so we are perfect for Mom cause when we get home she can bury her fingers in our fur and warm up and we quiet enjoy her cold little hands patting us :)
Oh Reilly, I love your 'mom interpretation'. Made me giggle.
ReplyDeleteYour mom is a good sport for bundling you guys so you can go for a walk.
Y'alls mom loves y'all a lot to go the extra mile to make sure you get your walkie and sniffs in. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
Mom is laughing so hard

That is a great picture of you dressed up as your mom! We think that your mom is in fact quite heroic to take you out for walkies when she suffers from Raynaud's disease. Gail has a mild form of the same syndrome. Sometimes the tips of one or two of her fingers (always in the right hand for some reason) go all white and numb in cold weather and stay like that for ages, even after she has come indoors and the rest of her body has warmed up.
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!

Wow, that first pix is so cute! BOL Well, at least it's worth the wait if you get your walkie. Sorry your Mom has to fight the cold while you both love it. That pix with you in the leaves is gorgeous. :)

Mom is good to take you out with such a risk to herself.
ReplyDeleteWe made great sacrifices to shed some warmth on to family this weekend so they wouldn't have to wear so many layers, but they just didn't appreciate our all natural sheltie warmth.
You guys are very lucky to have such a lovely Mom. Big warming hugs to Mom !
ReplyDeleteLoves and licky kisses

ReplyDeleteThe Mad Scots
It seems to take HER forever to get ready in cold weather....so we understand. But we're glad your mum can put enough stuffs on so she can take you for walks!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are furry hand warmers??! PAWSOME!!! I thinks it is very brave of your Moms to shop in the freezer section of the store! Though, Ma could probably live in there (she likes the cold..she be weird) How brave she must be to gives you guys Frosty Paws! She probably gets her paws all frosty just thinkin' abouts it! You have one FABulous Moms there guys!
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥
We love the picture of Reilly all dressed up. He is a good sport fur letting u take his picture like that.
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds awful. My dad has seen these "heated" jackets in Lowe's or Home Depot made by Milwaukee and others that might keep your mom's upper body parts warm. My dad says there are heated gloves too. He's seen them in outdoor clothing stores. Long underwear, definitely Patagonia. The key here is to get a fabric that can act as a wind block. We hope that your mom will be able to stay warm. Bye guys.
ReplyDeleteWe've heard of this disease, no fun. Your mom is a trooper going out with you despite her pain.
ReplyDeleteWould you believe my Mum has Raynauds too and her fingers go all numb, cold and white and even blue sometimes and we live in Noosa. It NEVER gets cold in Noosa. A cool breeze sends her off for a jumper. Mum really feels for your Mum having to put on all of those clothes but she loved that first photo of you all dressed up like your Mom.
ReplyDeleteYou boys are so adorable always. Sorry to hear the challenges that you mom faces when things get chilly… I do understand because my fingers and toes are always cold. My finger will crack and split, unless I keep gloves on. You boys are so lucky that you mom makes sure you get your exercise not matter what…
ReplyDeleteWhat a great Mom you have! When it gets cold here (and to Her, that's below 65) she bundles up like an Eskimo…and to think she lived in Alaska for 3 years BOL! Enjoy your walks! Love the scarf. :)
ReplyDeleteOuchie, that does sound very painful. Hope the weather warms up for you soon so that you can go for walks and your mommy's hands don't get so cold.
ReplyDeleteKatie gets so impatient with me too while I'm dressing for our winter times outside. She doesn't get the boots and the scarf and the hat and the coat and the gloves thing at all. But then she's a princess. I bet your boys are much better at being understanding than she is.
ReplyDeletePoor mom. I love your picture of your "mom" getting ready. Just be patient my friends. Having patience pays off with maybe longer walks? Oh and try to keep her warm. We don't want her hurting :) XOXO - Bacon
ReplyDeleteThat's a very brave way to show you how much she loves you. And I hope your fluffy fur is always there to warm up your mom's fingers. Is there anything to cure this disease or is it something what you have to accept as it is and what's only relievable?
ReplyDelete-xoxo Easy Rider, who can't comment on blogger, because it says I don't own my own identity-
I hate your mom has to bundle up like the Abomnibal Snowman, but your interpretation is pretty dang pawsome! BOL!
ReplyDeleteWe truly sympathize with your mom! Usually mine is all dressed and ready before I hear "Dolly get up time for a walk! because I just stay in bed. And mom's fingers get just as cold and she doesn't have an excuse. What's so wonderful is that your mom doesn't make excuses for taking you on walks, something to be very thankful for! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteYou have a good mom. Now if only she could grow fur on her paws!
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
It's one thing your mom and I agree on(at least one of things) cold weather isn't much fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, I didn't realize your mom had Raynaud's. That is such a yucky one...very painful when those little fingers and toes get cold. I am glad you both are there to help keep her snug and warm!
ReplyDeleteOz
LOVE the photo Reilly! You two are lucky your mom loves you so much, that is A LOT of dressing and undressing she has to do.
ReplyDeleteWally & Sammy
Too bad moms can't just grab a leash and go like us, huh? Our mom has that Frosty Paws syndrome, too. She just got new mittens that convert into fingerless gloves. She's all kinds of excited about them.
ReplyDeleteKeep your mom warm, guys!
Yours sincerely,
Margaret Thatcher
I have never heard of this. I am so sorry that you suffer from it. You stay bundled up. ♥
