Phew - I have added yet another park to MY ever growing list of places under the care of MY protective paw. Today we went to check out the the Dutton Island Preserve now renamed the Dutton Island Cowspotdog Preserve :) Mom actually stumbled on this place by accident as it doesn't show up on Google Maps as a park but while browsing the Florida Parks web page she came across a list of 'preserves'. We are not sure what the difference is between a 'park' and a 'preserve' is as this place has camping, fishing, picnic facilities and LOTS of walking trails and areas where you can take your canoe and paddle through all the water ways. It sure seems like a park to us :) Not only are there lots of walking trails to follow there are cool boardwalks and Mom's most favorite thing - BRIDGES. And check our what else we found - these are native wild iris's and they were growing in patches all over the preserve - aren't they just so pretty.
That's another great place to sniff around. You're going to be VERY busy......

ReplyDeleteWe have those wild irises growing all along the banks of my little lake here in my neighborhood. They are so pretty...Ma just loves seeing them. They brighten up the lakeshore and when the lake overflows (during rainy season) they just keep on growing. Hardy and beautiful! So glad you are finding such great new places to visit!

Very pretty spot.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Not sure if I am correct, but I think so. The difference between a park and "preserve" is that a park could eventually be built on. "Preserves" are "protected".....they are zoned that they can never be built on for commercial purposes. The actual verb means "maintain (something) in its original or existing state.".....so it can never be tainted by human hands :) Parks can be closed and built on.
ReplyDeleteYou're findin all kindsa cool places!
ReplyDeleteInteresting stories and outstanding comparisons you have just showed in it Adopt a dog
ReplyDeleteI think it is awesome you get to explore so many parks! Heather and Mr. K would love to join you. Much love, The Scottie Mom.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteWe have forest preserves here. I think its a preserve because its left to grow naturally with wildlife, not landscaped like a park. Enjoy! Love Dolly
