1. How long have you been blogging? And, for anyone who is visiting for the first time, please give a quick description of the subject of your blog.
We have been blogging since the 6th of July 2009 and our blog was and is still primarily is about us - our daily lives, our adventures, places we go and things we do. We have tried over the years to make it informative as well as fun.
2. What is the one thing that you accomplished during 2015, either on your blog or because of it, that made you most proud?
Our blog pretty much stays the same year after year so we haven't accomplished a whole lot different than previous years. We occasionally throw a new idea into the mix but overall it just stays the same.

3. Which of your blog posts was your favorite this year and why?
We don't really have any favorite posts - there are certainly some that appeal more to readers than other and that is just based on the number of comments we get on some more than others
4. A common theme from last year’s challenge was that many of us wanted to increase the size of our audiences. Whether or not we intend to monetize our blogs, it seems we’d all like to reach more people. It feels good to know that we’re connecting with others, sharing a laugh or supporting a cause, and it’s motivating to see those numbers grow! What is one thing you’ve done in the past year that has brought more traffic to your blog?

Our emphasis has never been on getting more followers we just love sharing our adventures and thoughts with others and making friends - our blog gives us a voice :)
5. Which of your blog posts got the most traffic this year? Why do you think it was so popular?
The most popular posts is when one of us sick - either Mom or ourselves - we always get so much POTP from others and it is that compassion for others that comes out full force and that we all share - it is what makes blogville so special

6. What is one blog that you read religiously – other than your own – and what makes you such a devoted reader?
We read all the blogs on our reading list and try to comment on as many as we can - we love each and every one of them for different reasons and we don't have any favorites - we just love you all :)
7. What resources do you rely on to enhance your technical, writing, photography, social media, or other skills that improve your blog?
Just the Mom's old creative mind and the fact that our blog pretty much stays the same means we don't have to do a lot to it :) Over the years we have added Facebook, twitter, Instagram and pintrest but we rarely ever use those :)
8. What is the best piece of advice you can offer other bloggers?
8. What is the best piece of advice you can offer other bloggers?
Understanding that there are a few distinct types of pet blogs is key - the first is written in the 'dog voice' and everything is from there their perspective - it is all about the adventures in their lives. The second is the same as the first but includes promotion of items from retailers. The third is written about dogs but using the person voice - the owners write about their dogs. The fourth is the same as the third but also includes product sales. And then there are combinations of the previously mentioned. Finding where you fit in that will help decide which direction you take your blog.
We know a lot of people think about monetizing their dog blog - it takes a lot of commitment (time and effort wise) there needs to be an increase in social media knowledge and often quite a financial commitment to begin with (having a blog designed for you and it's upkeep can be expensive unless you are savvy enough to do itself.) You also have to ask yourself the tough question - what happens to the blog when your furbaby dies. We have known many people who just leave the blogging world after the event - not only because of the loss of their beloved furbaby but also because of the loss of what they use spend often hours each day doing.
9. What is your vision for your blog in 2016? Do you have specific goals?

Just to keep having fun and sharing our adventures with others :)
10. You have the attention of the pet blogging community – is there one blogging challenge you’d like help with, or one aspect of your blog that you’d like input on?
Just to remember the real focus is on our furbabies and what we can do to make their lives as enriched and as comfortable as we can. In comparison to our own human lives - furbabies are with us just a short amount of time - making every second of that count is what means the most to us.

wow you were in blogville before I was born, that's a long time :o) I noticed the same as I got my stats from wordpress, the post with the most traffic was the post as my dad jumped from the roof.... I hope he hasn't to do the next crazy thing this year to get more traffic lol
ReplyDeleteWe love your blog and we are glad it isn't changing!
ReplyDeleteI should have included you, because whenever I am on Blogger, yours is definitely one of the blogs I "follow religiously."
ReplyDeleteI just can't see trying to monetize our blog, I just don't have the time or skill to make it worth it.
And as for the voice, it's mostly mine, with the collies stealing control over the blog every once in a while. I wish I could always write it in their voice, but I can't always get across what I want to share if I am posting for them.
Anyway, thanks for the advice, we appreciate it!
Great answers! We love your blog, and agree with all your answers!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your answers!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like an interesting challenge. Maybe we'll give it a try if ghostwriter has the time.
ReplyDeleteWe are SO totally with you on just loving to share our adventures - not about getting bigger numbers! We especially like your answer to #10!!!
ReplyDeleteCammie!
A+ A+ answers to all the questions .... butt we TOTALLY LOVE your answer about picking a Favorite Blog... how COULD one do that... Every Blog that we follow is NEAR and DEAR to our ♥♥♥♥♥ Hearts... and just like a Mother... there could NEVER be a Favorite... EACH is special in its own way.
ReplyDeleteIf we were going to answer those questions, we'd just cut and paste most of your answers...BOL! We just blog to have fun...and we only blog, don't use those other mediums.
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed reading your answers. Did you see an email from mom asking for pictures to put on the BAR float?
ReplyDeleteKeep Calm & Bark On!
Murphy & Stanley
Your blog is perfect just the way it is. We love reading your daily adventures, Reilly and Denny!
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job with this! Part of what we love about your blog is that it is just about the dogs and you. We love your photos and your thoughts. You are right, every blog is different and special in their own way. We would never, ever list favorites because frankly, we think it is kinda rude to do so lol!!!! Each and every blog has something unique to offer, just like each and every blogger is unique and has something special to offer. Well done, you!!!! DakotasDen
ReplyDeleteAw, my favorite answer is to Question #10. How refreshing to meet you in the Pet Blogger's Challenge today. I'm looking forward to checking back and reading more of your articles soon. :)
ReplyDeleteLoved this. So true...I've seen some people disappear once their pet dies. Stinks! I wish they'd stick around.
ReplyDeleteCrikey ..... I ditto all of that. Your answer to No. 9 sums it all up for me. That's what it's all about. Mum and I love your blog and always read it even if we don't comment as much as we used to.
ReplyDeletePawsome answers. We think the post that sticks out in our mind (maybe it was from last year) is the one that had the lochness monster in the lake in the background and u dogs posed by the lake. I liked reading the comments on that post... They were like...whatever u do Denny, don't turn around. Lol.
ReplyDeleteWe do not blog every day, sometimes not every week. However, when we do it is because a certain photo or happening means something to us. Our blog is our diary, one which we often 'turn back the pages' to day 1 and enjoy reminiscing.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is perfect as is. We dabble in things here and there, but it is still fun and fun is our main goal. If it ever stops being fun, it will be done. As long as the blogger is happy with the blog, that is all that matters, so good for you guys.
ReplyDeleteThose are some hard questions! I'm glad to hear your blog won't change because I enjoy following the adventures of the Cowspotdogs just as you do.
ReplyDeleteYou know I love reading about all your adventures so don't change a thing!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your answers. It is fun reading about your adventures and I love your photos.
ReplyDeleteWe've had our pups use their voice from time to time, but mainly it's the humans writing our blog posts. Stetson is 9 and Linus is 11. I'm hoping for many more years of blogging with those two furbabies. All the best to you in 2016!
ReplyDeleteWe loved your answers, so honest and true. We love your blog for just the reasons you said, not to monetize, or grow but just to share your two dogs with us. Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteWe wanted to stop by again and let you know - your answers to this meme really helped our mom make a big decision and reevaluation of our blog. Especially your answer to #8. Our blog has been up since Sep 2006 and she was starting to lose sight of our main purpose. THANK you for your candid, thought-out answers. You really made a difference for us.
