So proud of my little boy

Do you remember last week as I started teaching Denny the "Find It"  - he was sooooo scared of the boxes - even just one box. Well lots of practice and patience and look at my little guy. He is still a little afraid of the boxes - especially if they touch him....but it is a big improvement and I am so proud of him. The first part of the video is Denny bravely finding treats all by himself and check out how cute he is getting inside the box:). Then I let Reilly join in as nothing beats a little competition - but of coarse Reilly is so fast he finds everything before Denny.

Now for those that don't know - Denny wasn't always so frightened. He was a normal happy outgoing pup until about 6 months of age when the vet suggested we try a new flea & tick treatment on him. BAD BAD mistake - he had a severe neurological reaction to it - for 24 hours he was shaking, trembling, panting heavily, nervous, kept jumping like something was startling him and basically just terrified. We had hoped it was just a temporary reaction but alas it wasn't and today he is as I call him "my weird little dude" He has some quirky behaviors, is now very timid and scared but he also very loving and makes the funniest ever cat sounds when he wants a cuddle.

  1. This video had me crying! What an amazing leap of confidence Denny made in such a short amount of time. He looked relaxed and engaged, amongs all those previously "scary" boxes.

What a huge accomplishment. Great job to both of you.

  2. Hip hip arrrooooo for Denny. We didn't know there could be such a reaction to flea and tick treatment. Luckily, right where we live, we don't have ticks and fleas.

  12. Oh my goodness! I didn't know that about Denny! That's such a shame, I bet you were NOT at all happy with the vets. That's terrible! At least he seems to be getting some confidence back.
Denny, you keep trying that box game, because you're getting good! One day, you'll be fantastic at it!

  14. That is just pawesome. He looks so much more comfortable with the boxes. You give us encouragement for Lightning.

If you wouldn't mind, could you email us with the flea and tick treatment name that was the problem? Just curious.

  15. You`re a brave boy, Denny!! Keep up the good work.

I avoid flea and tick medications. My guys get heartworm meds and we avoid tick infested areas. I saw what the topical flea medication did my sister`s hardwood floor. Why would we put that on our dog`s skin.

  23. I didn't know Denny's history. How sad. Did the vet ever, I don't know...apologise? Make amends? I guess the reaction isn't common but I hope the manufacturer makes this kind of possibility known to vets.

  26. Good for you, Denny! Nothing wrong with being a weird little dude, especially when you have Reilly to watch your back. I did see you pick up the pace a bit when Reilly started stealing your noms.
