Yesterday we all jumped in the Ms Beazly (MY new car) and headed off to Amelia Island - this was our first visit and to get there we had to take a car ferry which Mom said was so cool. This was also our first case of dog discrimination for although dogs are allowed on the ferry they are not allowed to get out of the car - which is so unfair as I REALLY wanted to stand at the bow like Mom did. Needless to say I barked loudly about the unfair situation.
Once we got off the ferry we headed off toward the first park which is Little Talbot State Park and shock horror - more doggie discrimination - we were told they don't allow dogs and they charge $5.00 to just to get in! Dad turned Ms Beazly around and we left - then we came across Big Talbot State Park and it was the same thing! We kept driving and noticed they have an awesome bike trail that runs the entire length of Amelia island and every now and again there was a place to park. I told Dad I REALLY needed to leave some pee mail so he stopped and as luck would have the parking area we stopped at also had a walking trail that led down to the beach. It also cost $3.00 to just park at the trail but I told Mom she could take it out of my treat money as I really really wanted to go. We walked and walked and walked and it was awesome - it was so shady and cool and eventually we came out to an area called drift wood beach. We couldn't really go and check it out as the path came to an abrupt end on a cliff about 10 foot high and we couldn't find a path down but we enjoyed looking at it anyway. We kept driving an noticed lots of funny shaped beach houses including this one that looked like a lighthouse. Mom was surprised there are still blocks of lands for sale right on the beach front - she is dreaming now of winning the lotto and having a house right on the beach.
that's the dream of my momma too... lets cross our paws that they wll pick the right numbers of that lottery thingy :o) I'm with you for the ferry thingy, it's the same here... and therefore we refused to travel over the channel... hope my mom will be brave enough for the tunnel once :o)... or wait if she wins in that lottery we can buy our own ferry... or a rubber dinghy :o)ReplyDelete
We are glad you protested the unfair dog rules! We hope you win the lottery. See you in a few weeks!ReplyDelete
Oh gosh, how unfair!!! I don't like those doggie discrimination laws!ReplyDelete

You will find that every once in a while a Florida State Park does not allow dogs. It is usually the beaches and it is because the beaches are a protected habitat for protected animals and plant species...and they don't want any dogs "harrassing" the native animals. We have learned to accept it as we want there to be protected places for say the manatees and turtles. I am glad you found a spot to hike.ReplyDelete
OMDness that is tuff... glad you found a place to adventure in though... sigh... beach house... on a WARM beach.... yup nice dream! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
THOSE RULES are SOOOOOO UNFAIR... Butt you DID get to go on a super walk and Fortunately... Leave some PEE MAIL . We HOPE you told folks that it is WRONG not to allow dogs to do thingys....ReplyDelete
No dogs? No DOGS?!??! What kind of parks are those! Ha-rumph!ReplyDelete
We are so happy your ending up having a successful outing. Thanks for sharing!ReplyDelete
WHAT IS THE POINT OF A PARK IF DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN???!!!ReplyDelete
Sounds like around here! No doggies allowed in the parks or the buses or the trains....it's insane!!!ReplyDelete
Wells, at least you gots to leave some peemail, and it was nice and cool! does sound like an pawsome adventure though!!!
Boo for dog discrimination!!! Glad you found a place to go for a walk.ReplyDelete
OMD! Not allowed out of the car? Not allowed in parks? Did they even listen to your qualifications as a Bark Ranger? We're glad you ended up having a good anyway. Guess if you hadn't been turned away from Amelia Island, you wouldn't have found the other area. So it worked out okay.ReplyDelete
We need to get Ernie on the case about all this doggie discrimination! So unjust! Pretty photos though :)ReplyDelete
Those park leaders have no idea what they are missing by not letting dogs in!!! Just think of all the critter control dogs could provide:)ReplyDelete
A house on the beach - our Mom's dream too:)
Woos - Ciara and Lightning
Well, Im glad you finally got to go to the beach. I know a lot of beaches in Fl. don't allow dogs.ReplyDelete
Oh I am so sorry. But glad you finally found a park to have a great walk. We are a very friendly doggie area.ReplyDelete
Our local lake is a real favorite. Except right now it is closed due to the flooding from all the rain last month.
But we're ok so happy to have the rain. I enjoyed visiting. I came over from Mitch and Molly's it was nice to meet you.
Have a wonderful week.
We've found lots if doggie discrimination on our Florida visits.ReplyDelete
Crikey ..... No dogs!!!!! That stinks, aye?? I hate those signs!! I'm glad you found a nice place to walk though even if you had to pay. What's with that? I hope that paying thing doesn't ever happen here in Australia. That beach looks beautiful. I hope you win the lottery!!ReplyDelete
Hi there. It's the same policy up here on the west coast of Canada. BC Ferries has the same policy. So my dad and mom take turns sitting in the vehicle hold watching over us because we're not allowed up on deck.ReplyDelete
What a cool lighthouse beach house! Discrimination is so not right!ReplyDelete
Love ya lots♥
Mitch and Molly
Hope you win the lotto too. That cliff thing sounds horrible at the end of the trail. Glad that's not one of your park's that you are Park Ranger for.ReplyDelete
NO DOGS ALLOWED! Now how unfair is that!!!! Somebody out there needs an attitude adjustment....quick!ReplyDelete
Lucky guys! I don't like the dog discrimination either but we have this "NO DOGS" signs everywhere over here so I think you're still very lucky that you get to go to so many beautiful parks and you have your own pond as well.ReplyDelete
Glad you stuck it out and found a nice place for a walk! That doggie discrimination sucks, but I would have preferred to stay in the car. Love DollyReplyDelete
Win the lottery seems to be true for all beach front property. That dog discrimination seems to be true on a lot of areas close to the beaches and in rental summer property near beaches. Guess us dogs are not suppose to play in the sand and have fun like our humans.ReplyDelete
Thanks for being a friend
Sweet William The Scot
my Mom dreams of the same thing!!! As for the doggie discrimination....visit Michigan lol (the home of doggie discrimination!)ReplyDelete
It's hard to find a park on the water that let dogs visit here too. But you got a cool ferry ride, even though you had to stay in the car! Didn't it get hot in the car??ReplyDelete
